🇵🇹 Aussievision at Lisbon 2018: In the build-up to Aussievision arriving in Vienna this week. We’re taking a daily look at our history on the ground at Eurovision. We start with Lisbon 2018 when Aussievision was predominantly a podcast. We had a great time covering the event, Jessica Mauboy’s progress to the Grand Final 🇦🇺 (and that great rooftop embassy party!), connecting with the OGAE Australia community as well as other creators all in an incredible host city 😍

Lavina - Kraj mene 🇷🇸

“For the Eurovision Song Contest, Kraj Mene maintains a similar tone, but pretty much everything has been elevated to some degree.

“The costumes are bigger this time, for a start. Still black, of course - this is LAVINA we’re talking about.

“His all-new shoulder armour is so big, he can fit two swords in it. One on each side.

“This sword has been stabbed down into a rock, giving it a platform to serve as a mic stand for Luka.

“This performance packs pyro, and plenty of it! This is the first pyro of the season where we’ve actually felt the heat on our face.”

Alicja - Pray 🇵🇱

“You might have watched the performance of Pray that saw ALICJA win the Polish pre-selection in March, but you can pretty much forget all about that. The only element that has stayed the same is her clothing.

“The Eurovision staging of this song centres around a prop - which we've promised we won't discuss in detail!

“What we can say is that it’s a prop that may look simple when stood on its own (yet monumental, regardless), but once ALICJA and her four backing dancers start interacting with it, that’s when it transforms into something very special.

“The director of this show really knew what they were doing here, which is evident in how the camera work picks up the light and shadows around ALICJA and co's movement.

“During her solo gospel-themed intro, there are some really incredible shots.”

“She’s brought along four dancers and an extra-special guest. The calibre of guest that can truly convey the message of her song - global Superstar himself, Boy George.

“In the First Look photos released tomorrow, you’ll see SENHIT rock a mirrorball-themed jumpsuit. And she looks absolutely radiant in it.

“This staging is so camp, even the spotlights have been programmed to shine in rainbow.

“At the end of the performance, our two superstars walk hand in hand down the catwalk and off into the rainbow sunset, leaving flumes of pyro blasting behind them in their rear-view mirror.”

Essyla - Dancing on the ice 🇧🇪

“What an opening shot! First impressions are going to be strong for Belgium as an ethereal ESSYLA greets the audience while coming face to face with a wind machine.

“The fabric is almost transparent, like a sheet of ice, and as gorge as it looks while she’s static, just wait until she commences her strut!

“Now that she’s united with her crew, ESSYLA can join in on the choreography. We see her dancing on the ice as a floor of tiny crystals parts beneath her feet.

“The elements play a big part in the performance too, with a battle between fire and ice going on throughout (no prizes for guessing which one is declared the winner!).

“On the third run-through of her song, we get the snow machine turned on, with ESSYLA now singing under snowfall at the start of her performance.”

“What an opening shot! First impressions are going to be strong for Belgium as an ethereal ESSYLA greets the audience while coming face to face with a wind machine.

“Right here in the arena, audiences will see a huge diamond object with a mirrored exterior take centre stage. And it’s inside this that the performance starts.

“Viewers watching at home will see Noam begin Michelle while surrounded by a reflective surface that gives the illusion of him being inside a crystal chamber.

“Noam Bettan is wearing a black leather jacket over a black silk shirt, with the outfit completed by black leather trousers.

“He’s beckoned out from his giant diamond by a sole dancer (whom viewers might recognise from the Michelle music video), who takes him to the front of the stage where four more dancers await.

“The dancers don’t stray far from Noam throughout the remainder of the song, always flanking him with a series of hand choreography formations.”

Vanilla Ninja - Too Epic to Be True 🇪🇪

“Too Epic To Be True has received a rocked-up revamp especially for the Eurovision Song Contest. And it’s not just the music that has been given a glow-up!

“The vanilla-white outfits that the trio are wearing have also been given an upgrade for the international stage. The clothes fit the cool vibes of the song, emphasising the girls’ rock credentials.

“There aren’t many of us here in the arena right now as the artists rehearse, but it was still very clear that the Vanilla Ninja vibe queens are going to be doing some excellent interaction with the Wiener Stadthalle audience once those Live Shows start.

“The middle-eight section of the song between the second and final chorus is being used as an opportunity to get the crowd hyped up - not that they will need any pointers with this banger blasting around the venue. Hand claps are encouraged.

“The Nova Zora singer starts her performance being draped dramatically across the stage floor by four shadowy figures. She then contorts herself into a standing position to really let the audience have it.

“It’s a performance that takes place across three acts, signalled to the audience by roman numerals appearing on the screen behind her. Act I. Act II. Act III.

“Throughout each act, we see our quintet of queens partake in some very intricate choreography, which ranges from the maniacal to the impressively synced.

“While they work their magic in movement, the stage around them is bathed in dark red hues, complemented by sporadic shades of blue. There’s thunder, there’s lightning, there’s molten lava! It's attention-grabbing stuff all round.”

Australia has picked up more points in the OGAE Poll for Eurovision 2026.

Each year the OGAE Eurovision fan clubs from across the world vote for their favourite Eurovision songs ahead of the Contest.

The clubs are part of Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l'Eurovision (OGAE) International who each year conduct a pre-Eurovision Song Contest poll. Every national club casts a vote from all entries participating, using the same scoring system as the one at Eurovision.

The International Network of Fan Clubs of Eurovision (INFE) is an organisation that brings together fan clubs of Eurovision around the world.

It is a different network from OGAE Clubs, however share the similar ideals of uniting fans together in their love of Eurovision.

The INFE group run a song poll with ESCToday each year, much like the OGAE Song Poll, and the results for 2026 have started to be released.

Overnight Australia received its sixth set of points in the INFE 2026 Eurovision poll, this time from Armenia!

The International Network of Fan Clubs of Eurovision (INFE) is an organisation that brings together fan clubs of Eurovision around the world.

It is a different network from OGAE Clubs, however share the similar ideals of uniting fans together in their love of Eurovision.

The INFE group run a song poll with ESCToday each year, much like the OGAE Song Poll, and the results for 2026 have started to be released.

Overnight Australia received its sixth set of points in the INFE 2026 Eurovision poll, this time from Armenia!

Here are the results from INFE Armenia:

12 points - Finland
10 points - Greece
8 points - Denmark
7 points - AUSTRALIA
6 points - Cyprus
5 points - Malta
4 points - Montenegro
3 points - Albania
2 points - France
1 points - Sweden

This places Australia in 7th place overall after 12 nations have voted.

“Linda Lampenius stands alone on the deserted stage of what was once an orchestra. Now, it’s been littered with the overturned chairs and sheet-music stands of Linda’s former musician colleagues.

“Linda Lampenius has lightened her colour palette! Her dress… is now a striking silver. It makes her slow descent towards the burning confessional box even more otherworldly to the eye.

“When the camera pans away from her towards the big climax of the song… our heroic violinist races towards the back of the stage to be reunited with her duet partner.

Each year the OGAE Eurovision fan clubs from across the world vote for their favourite Eurovision songs ahead of the Contest.

The clubs are part of Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l'Eurovision (OGAE) International who each year conduct a pre-Eurovision Song Contest poll. Every national club casts a vote from all entries participating, using the same scoring system as the one at Eurovision.

Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia and Lithuania have given points to Australia's entry Eclipse by Delta Goodrem.

Australian-born Eurovision legend Johnny Logan has revealed he turned down multiple offers to be part of Eurovision 2026 in Vienna.

The three-time winner said he had been approached several times to appear at this year’s 70th anniversary Contest but declined in support of Ireland’s boycott.

Speaking on Ireland AM, Johnny said: "I’ve been asked three times, four times to be involved with the Eurovision Song Contest, the actual show this year, and I’ve had to say no because of my support."

He confirmed that decision was tied directly to backing Ireland’s stance.

He said: “I just… I was asked to make my decision. My decision is to support the Irish Government and the Irish television position on this.”

Johnny has been outspoken on the issue more broadly since Ireland chose to boycott Eurovision 2026.

He said: “I really think that what Ireland, what RTÉ, have done is exactly the right thing to do. I support them 100%.”

He also said: “I really feel that in this case, RTÉ definitely made the right decision.”

Addressing criticism of his position, Johnny said: “I’m not antisemitic, and I’m not pro-Hamas or anything like that. Quite the opposite.”

Johnny remains one of Eurovision’s most iconic figures, often dubbed “Mr Eurovision” after winning the contest twice as a performer and once as a songwriter.

He has also appeared at the Contest since, most recently in 2024 as an interval act.

Born in Frankston, Victoria, his Australian connection runs throughout his life and career, with his parents later living in Australia.

He first won in 1980 with What’s Another Year before returning in 1987 to win again with Hold Me Now, which became a major hit in Australia, reaching no.4 and spending 35 weeks in the Top 100.

He later completed a unique hat-trick by writing Linda Martin’s 1992 winning entry Why Me?

Finalnd has won the final overall vote in Eurojury for Eurovision 2026 after taking out the public online vote.

Eurojury is an annual competition held by fan site Eurovoix that sees artists, musicians, songwriters and the general public vote on the Eurovision Song Contest entries for 2026.

A distinctive feature of Eurojury is the involvement of industry expert panels from each participating country, aiming to replicate the kind of jury outcome that might seen on the Grand Final night in May, which accounts for 50% of the points.

That part of the vote has, now be finalised with the other 50% of the results coming from a public vote with the aim of replicating the televote.

This year 36 sets of jury results (this includes the Rest the World vote) were revealed along with an online public vote and we have a winner!

Linda Lampenius x Pete Parkkonen with their song Liekinheitin for Finland topping the online public score and finishing second with the juries.

Australia's own Delta Goodrem finished in 3rd place for Australia.
