Is a more permanent Eurovision mascot in the works?

Could the Eurovision Song Contest be considering a permanent mascot following the popularity of recent characters in Basel and Vienna?
Eurovision Song Contest Director Martin Green CBE has revealed that discussions are taking place about the future of mascots, with their popularity surprising organisers.
Speaking exclusively to Aussievision, Martin said the response from fans had sparked interest in how mascots could become part of Eurovision's future.
"We've been watching it very carefully," Martin said.
"We've all been surprised by how much people have liked them."
The challenge of Eurovision's annual schedule
Martin explained that one of the biggest challenges facing Eurovision is the short turnaround between Contests, particularly when it comes to merchandise.
"There's a pragmatic issue with mascots, which is because we are an annual show, it is nearly impossible to design a mascot and then get it manufactured in any way you turn into merchandise because the timelines just don't work."
"And of course, one of the key reasons you do mascots is so people can take them home."
Martin compared this to the Olympic Games, where organisers have several years to prepare.
"You know, it's fine for an Olympics because they got four years, you know, six years, seven years."

The positive response to recent mascots has prompted conversations about how they could work within Eurovision's annual schedule.
"There are conversations going on about, well, look, people like it, it's fun. How could we do this within the fact that we are an annual competition?"
Martin also offered an intriguing indication that something could be in development.
"So yeah, watch this space on that because we've all been surprised by how much people have liked them and why not, right?"
"But we're thinking about it carefully because, as ever, we want to do something in the right way."
While nothing has been confirmed, if Eurovision is looking to overcome the logistical challenges of creating and manufacturing a new mascot each year, could we see a permanent or semi-permanent Eurovision mascot in the future?
