Czechia officially withdraws from Eurovision Song Contest 2027

Czechia has officially withdrawn from the Eurovision Song Contest and will not compete in Burgas in 2027.
Czech broadcaster Česká televize has confirmed the country will sit out next year's Contest, bringing to an end more than a decade of consecutive Eurovision appearances.
The decision follows months of uncertainty over Czechia's participation, with the broadcaster previously indicating a final decision on Eurovision 2027 would be made in October.
The broadcaster released this statement:
"We know how much the Eurovision Song Contest means to all of us. That’s why we want to thank all of our Czech representatives, and most of all, you – our fans – for every vote, every comment, every bit of support, and for being there with us."
"In 2027, we won’t see the Czech flag on the Eurovision stage. But we’ll still be cheering for the others, and we hope to see you at the Eurovision Song Contest again someday"
Following the news, long-time Czech delegation member Ahmad Halloun shared an emotional farewell to the Contest.
“Today, as Czechia says goodbye to Eurovision, I can only look back with an overwhelming sense of gratitude,” Ahmad wrote.
“We worked tirelessly, year after year, to make history. Never stopping to think about how this story might end.”
Ahmad, who has worked across the Czech delegation's international communications for several years, thanked the artists and team members he had worked alongside.
“To Czechia: I just hope we made you proud,” he wrote.
He said he leaves the experience with friendships, memories and pride in what the Czech delegation achieved.
“Maybe this isn’t goodbye. Maybe it’s just the end of one chapter.”
Czechia at Eurovision
Czechia first competed at Eurovision in 2007 but withdrew following the 2009 Contest after three consecutive non-qualifications.
The country returned in 2015 and has been a regular fixture at Eurovision ever since.
Its breakthrough came in 2016 when Gabriela Gunčíková became the first Czech artist to reach the Grand Final.
Czechia achieved its best result in 2018, when Mikolas Josef finished sixth with Lie to Me. Vesna later delivered another top ten result in 2023, finishing tenth with My Sister’s Crown.
Czechia’s withdrawal means the country will be absent from Eurovision for the first time since its return to the competition in 2015.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with the semi-finals on May 11 and 13 and the Grand Final on May 15.
