Australia's Eurovision 2027 song portal is now OPEN!

The search for Australia's next Eurovision artist and song is officially underway, with SBS opening submissions for the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest today.
Australian artists and songwriters can now put themselves forward for a chance to represent the country in Burgas, Bulgaria, next May.
The SBS Eurovision 2027 Song Portal opened on Saturday 17 October and will remain open for three weeks, closing on Saturday 7 November.
The portal offers three different ways to get involved, allowing artists to register their interest without a song, songwriters to submit music for another artist, or performers to put forward their own original material.
How will Australia select its Eurovision 2027 entry?
Australia will once again use an internal selection process, with SBS making the final decision on both the artist and song.
The broadcaster has not announced when Australia's representative will be revealed.
The return of the song portal opens the process to a wider range of performers and songwriters, although submitting an entry or registering interest does not guarantee selection.
The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with the semi-finals on 11 and 13 May and the Grand Final on Saturday 15 May.
What can artists and songwriters submit?
There are three categories available through the SBS Song Portal:
Songwriter submitting an original song to be matched with an artist: For songwriters who have an original song but are not necessarily looking to perform it themselves.
Artist-songwriter submitting an original song: For performers who want to put forward their own music for consideration.
Artist not submitting a song today: For solo artists or groups who want to express interest in representing Australia without submitting a song.
One interesting aspect of the process is that SBS has made it clear that the artist performing a submitted song may not be the person who originally recorded it. This is a similar situation to when the song portal was open for Eurovision - Australia Decides.
Even if a song is selected, SBS retains the final say on who will perform it at Eurovision, although the broadcaster will consult with its songwriters.
What are the rules for submitting a song?
SBS has published its full terms and conditions, outlining what will and won't be accepted.
The key requirements are:
Songs must be original and between two and three minutes long.
At least one member of the songwriting team must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
Songs must not have been made publicly available before 1 September 2026.
Songs must include vocals, either sung or spoken. Instrumental-only entries are not eligible.
Lyrics must not include offensive language, political messages or commercial references.
Both published and unpublished songwriters are eligible to apply.
Songwriters can submit more than one song.
A notable rule for 2027 is the explicit prohibition on generative artificial intelligence (AI).
SBS requires songs to be entirely human-created, with neither the music nor lyrics generated in whole or in part using AI tools or models.
Applicants must also certify that no generative AI was used in writing the song.
What else is interesting in the terms and conditions?
There are several additional details worth noting.
A demo is enough: Songwriters do not need to submit a fully produced track. SBS will accept a recorded MP3 demo, provided the file is no larger than 10 MB.
Some flexibility on song length: Although songs must be longer than two minutes and no longer than three minutes, SBS can consider entries outside that range if it believes they can be rearranged to meet the requirements and the songwriters agree.
SBS can choose a different performer: The singer heard on the submitted demo is not guaranteed to be the person representing Australia. SBS has the final decision on the performer and artistic interpretation.
Shortlisted songs cannot necessarily be withdrawn: Songwriters can withdraw an entry before it is shortlisted or selected. After that point, withdrawal requires written agreement with SBS.
The deadline could be extended: SBS reserves the right to extend submissions if it determines that insufficient suitable entries have been received.
When do submissions close?
The SBS Song Portal closes at 11:59pm AEDT on Saturday 7 November 2026.
Artists and songwriters can submit through the official SBS Song Portal, where the full terms and conditions are also available.
Australia's entry for Eurovision 2027 will be announced at a later date.
