🇦🇺🇨🇭Aussievision at Basel: In the build up to our Vienna coverage, we’re taking a look back at our coverage history at Eurovision. We had just a team of two in 2025 but it was quality not quantity! We saw Go-Jo win over fans but just miss the Grand Final, Courtney and Tony make their debut as commentators and fans embraced the smaller city of Basel with a vibrant atmosphere and packed Euroclub. Now we’re ready for Vienna!

Cosmó - Tanzschein 🇦🇹

Eurovision live bloggers said of the performance:

"Our host entry begins with COSMÓ and his crowd of animals lying down on the stage floor. This is the part where Sir David Attenborough would come in and inform us that nighttime has fallen on the Sahara. But COSMÓ has other nocturnal activities in mind… The club awaits!

"If you didn’t know it already, Tanzschein has its own dance routine. And it’s that choreo which is placed centre stage during the performance. Whether COSMÓ and his animal friends are doing the dance all in a line or atop the huge climbing frames that are lowered from the arena ceiling onto the stage floor, it’s clear he wants viewers at home to join in.

"‘Dance away your inner animal’ are the words we see written on the stage at the start of the performance. COSMÓ is dressed for it too, in black leather trousers, a black rhinestone shirt and a mirrorball-inspired breastplate with matching disco armour running down his left arm.

"He ends the performance in his happy place; at the club with multi-coloured strobe lights pulsating behind him."

"As the song begins we see rows of desks on the stage. Joining him for his shift are four (for now!...) co-workers, but as you might well have come to expect from LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, these are not your average colleagues. Wearing computer monitors for heads, these guys sum up precisely how the artist feels about his new environment.

"At the start of his story, he goes along with the soul-crushing drudgery of the office life he’s been plonked into. But as the track really kicks in, LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER breaks free and escapes. Job done! The office desks become a choreography centre-piece as LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER and his co-workers transform their space.

"Before we know it there's been a stage makeover revealing LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER's signature synthesizers and keyboard.

"For his performance on the Eurovision stage, LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER is decked out in his trademark boiler suit, which has had something of a glow up, with a hint of functional fashion."

Monroe - Regarde ! 🇫🇷

Eurovision live bloggers said of the performance:

"At just 17 years old, Monroe is poised and positioned in a manner which draws inspiration from the painting style of the French Romantic era. She didn’t come to play, she came to PERFORM!

"Commencing in a thick cloud of smoke, Monroe’s introduction to the viewer is a dramatic one. Starting the performance on a small podium at the back of the stage, she ends on a different platform at the very front of the stage, after a three-minute march across a 30-metre catwalk.

"Monroe has utilised the steadicam for parts of her performance, singing directly to it and making her impassioned plea for the audience to ‘regarde moi’. She doesn’t get to plead her case for long, however, with her five dancers having to forcibly hold her back.

"Monroe is dressed entirely in white for her performance, in a style that merges modern design with the traditional fashion of the aforementioned French Romantic era. A bell-shaped skirt is tailored over a petticoat, while on top the singer is wearing a shirt, tie and waistcoat combo."

"She’s brought along a cube-like prop to give her the performance platform she deserves. And no one will be able to argue with that after they’ve seen Fire for the first time! Sarah starts the performance lying down on this cube, performing a piano-ballad version of her Eurovision song to the camera above.

"Sarah Engels is dressed entirely in gold, in a bodysuit that represents the title of her song. The corset part has been designed to look like roaring flames, while sparkling rhinestones dotted elsewhere resemble golden embers bringing yet more heat to Sarah’s performance.

"We start with the all-important suit fitting. A pair of groomsmen assist a happy fellow as he chooses the threads for his impending special day. Meanwhile, Sal Da Vinci performs at the front of the stage showing these style wannabes how it’s really done. He’s looking RESPLENDENT in a white suit, modern in style but representative of Naples design.

"For our next scene, a chandelier is lowered as Sal ushers us into his extravagant ballroom. Here, our excited groom (we’re talking back flips here) and his best men showcase some top-tier choreography. That wedding reception is going to be LIT!

"Next up, it’s the big day. And as the blushing bride is finally introduced to audiences at home, walking slowly up the catwalk of the stage, we witness Sal as the multi-tasking man of legend he truly is; today, Sal is moonlighting as the marriage officiant!

"Night falls on the Wiener Stadthalle stage and we end the song with the hottest invitation in Naples - the wedding reception! It’s a scene of lemon trees and lights, with fireworks depicted on the graphics behind Sal, too. The firework finish seems appropriate, with the symbolism fitting for the vocal prowess that the singer is displaying right now."

With Liv leading the team, we saw Electric Fields do Australia proud bringing Indigenous language and culture to the Eurovision stage, Aussie Silia Kapsis made the final for Cyprus and Nemo took out the win in a dramatic and controversial Contest.

A media release by the Honourable Tony Burke MP, Minister for the Arts, has said that Australia is receiving funding support from the Australian Government.

"Australia’s attendance is enabled through funding from the International Cultural Diplomacy Arts Fund, which supports our global cultural engagement to increase access to international audiences."

The International Cultural Diplomacy Arts Fund (ICDAF) is an Australian Government funding program that supports arts and cultural projects which help promote Australia internationally through cultural exchange, performance, exhibitions, festivals, collaboration and creative partnerships.

A further quote by the Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke says:

“Eurovision uses geo-blocking to prevent anyone from voting in their own country for their own artist, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help. Any Australian who’s travelling or has the phone number of anyone else in any other country, you know what to do.”

Other Australian acts have received Government funding in the past.

Electric Fields in 2024 received ICDAF funding, in 2025 Go Jo received a mix of ICDAF and Music Australia funding.

In 2023, Voyager received funding from the WA Government through the Contemporary Music Fund and Tourism WA.

While not strictly Government funding, in 2019 Kate Miller-Heidke used the Australian Cultural Fund platform operated by Creative Australia to raised over $60,000 towards the costs of performing her epic sky-high performance.

This year's OGAE Poll results was the 20th anniversary of Eurovision fan clubs selecting their favourite song of the year.

Here is a list of all 20 winners.

Each year the OGAE Eurovision fan clubs from across the world vote for their favourite Eurovision songs ahead of the Contest.

The clubs are part of Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l'Eurovision (OGAE) International who each year conduct a pre-Eurovision Song Contest poll. Every national club casts a vote from all entries participating, using the same scoring system as the one at Eurovision.

Jonas Lovv - Ya Ya Ya 🇳🇴

"We LOVV a LEWK! And this is a pair of high-waisted pants that are very much a lewk. 90 diamond-shaped panels adorn those trousers, fashioned out of black leather and sequins in a patchwork technique.

"Our artist from Norway says he likes being without a top because he feels that the body is a canvas in itself. You’ll notice he has more than a few tattoos on that canvas of his, and he reckons that he’ll end up getting a Eurovision Song Contest tattoo if the results go well enough for him.

"A huge row of red lights is lowered and highered throughout, to maximise the view of what’s unfolding on stage.

"JONAS LOVV spends the final 20 seconds of his staging pointing and posturing among the pyro, ending the performance in a triumphant pose in which the light behind paints him as a revered rock god."

Alis - Nân 🇦🇱

Eurovision live bloggers said of the performance:

"It’s a song of longing and of loss and so we have Alis appearing as a mysterious figure on a dark set, beginning the performance on his knees before rising up among clouds of smoke.

"Alis, dressed in black with a shimmering-gem finish, is joined by a cast of many via the graphics being played out behind him. A crowd of women, some wearing traditional Albanian costume, are representing the mothers of Albania waiting for their sons to return home.

"Their appearances are interspersed with alternative graphics - the sons singing along to Nân, assuring their mothers that all will be well and that this is just how things are right now.

"As Alis’ performance is broadcast, the English-language translation of his song for Albania will be subtitled on screen, just like Lucio Corsi’s entry for Italy was at Basel 2025."

"It’s a song of longing and of loss and so we have Alis appearing as a mysterious figure on a dark set, beginning the performance on his knees before rising up among clouds of smoke.

"Alis, dressed in black with a shimmering-gem finish, is joined by a cast of many via the graphics being played out behind him. A crowd of women, some wearing traditional Albanian costume, are representing the mothers of Albania waiting for their sons to return home.

"Their appearances are interspersed with alternative graphics - the sons singing along to Nân, assuring their mothers that all will be well and that this is just how things are right now.

"As Alis’ performance is broadcast, the English-language translation of his song for Albania will be subtitled on screen, just like Lucio Corsi’s entry for Italy was at Basel 2025."

"There’s a lot of sparkle to be enjoyed here. From the mic stand to the graphics on both the stage floor and the screen, Team Australia have taken the light and shadow theme of their Eurovision entry Eclipse and are setting out to have a lot of fun playing with it.

"Delta is wearing a custom couture gown which we’ve been told is adorned with approximately 7,000 (!!!) Swarovski crystals, therefore paying homage to Vienna’s signature sparkle. Around 500 hours of work went into crafting this chiffon beauty, and that shines through splendidly.

"The Vienna connection was an important one for Delta and the Australian delegation to make. Not only is Delta Goodrem a classically trained pianist and therefore holds Vienna’s musical heritage in high regard (she’s also invited a harpist to join her on stage), but the Austrian capital also played host to Australia’s first Eurovision participation back in 2015, for the Contest’s 60th edition, and so it made sense for them to mark the 70th in a special way.

"Delta’s staging evolves from a moon world to a sun world, culminating in an epic moment that will take the concept of the song to extraordinary new heights. And we can’t tell you exactly what just yet, but she’s using a pyro effect that no other country will be at Vienna 2026!"

"The blockbuster box performance has had a few of its elements elevated. Søren has dressed up for the occasion. Black leather trousers are topped with an aquamarine shirt that’s - in the words of MUNA - silk chiffon!

"We do get an outfit reveal though… that shirt is subsequently ripped off to display the stun n’ sparkly black mesh top underneath.

"Red tube lights inside the box light up and intensify as the staging progresses, meaning that things start to look really hot in there by the time the second chorus has rolled around. Even hotter than the thrusting that’s most definitely been scaled up during the first verse.

"As he steps out of his sweat box towards the end of the performance, a storm engulfs the stage floor and the screen behind him. But the heat is soon turned up again… The graphics below and behind him transform into a blazing fire for the final 20 seconds."

"Antigoni has rehearsed JALLA for Cyprus here in Vienna. She’s been telling us along that she’s “dancing on the table” and this morning the ancient Cypriot prophecy came true.

"We all remember where we were when Ivi Adamou danced on the table for Cyprus at Baku 2012, but for 2026 the Cypriot delegation have scaled the idea up in a major way. This table is so huge, there is room for four dancers to get up there with her.

"And what’s a big table without the right table setting? This one’s got a table runner made of an LED strip, which assists in creating arguably the most visually stunning part of the performance - the “you want more?...” bit of the song.

"Antigoni is dressed in a short, white, beaded Aphrodite dress, looking like she’s all set for a Nicosia night out in July. The song is performed in front of a backdrop that features giant, ancient pillars lit in blue."

“Veronica Fusaro is playing tug of war with the viewer - her microphone takes the form of a rope and it’s the singer at one end and the cameraman on the other.

“The rope theme continues with the arrival of four female dancers, draped in blood-red rope and leading Veronica to a giant prop that has been rolled onto the stage. It’s a cube-shaped climbing frame, with more red rope, this time acting acting as prison bars.

“The staging is of course connected to the message of Veronica’s song; the red-rope netting symbolising the hold that domestic violence victims are kept in by their abusers.

“In her final escape attempt Veronica breaks out her guitar, falling to her knees and spelling out Alice’s name in red rope - our closing shot.

“Veronica is rocking the rhinestones on stage at the Wiener Stadthalle. They’re encrusted all over the cropped military jacket of her black trouser suit and run down the side of her legs too. Feather-trimmed shoulders add an extra touch of glam to her outfit.”

🇨🇿 Czechia - Daniel Žižka - "Crossroads"

Eurovision bloggers said the following of the performance:

"Why start CROSSROADS with one Daniel Zizka when you can do it with many? If you’ve seen the music video for Daniel’s song for Czechia, then you’ll know that this artist loves a mirror effect. Well, he’s brought that same enthusiasm for reflective surfaces to Vienna. He’s brought ALL the mirror effects to the Wiener Stadthalle today.

There’s a whole four-piece prop being moved into (and out of) place by four ‘dancers’ as the performance progresses. The multiple-mirror staging ensures that viewers are treated to lots of visual effects within the three-minute masterpiece that Czechia has put together for us. They just keep coming at you; it’s like a lesson in light and camera trickery.

But regardless of the volume of visual treats on offer, nothing you see will upstage what you hear. The standout of the CROSSROADS performance today has been Daniel Zizka’s vocals. His delivery sounds exactly as it does on record. And it’s the performer that gets to be the star of the show.

For today’s rehearsal (and tomorrow’s rehearsal pics) Daniel is dressed in a light, baby-blue colour (both shirt and trousers). But we’ve been informed that there are alternative fashion choices to trial, and this may not be the outfit you’ll see on Thursday 14 May. Whatever you end up watching him in though, you're in for a very special performance from Czechia this year. The closing ten seconds in particular are awe inspiring."
