American Song Contest 2022: The pop artists



Last week saw the 56 artists competing in the inaugural American Song Contest revealed!


The artists included some huge worldwide names like Michael Bolton, Jewel, Sisqo and Macy Gray.


But it's the other 52 artists that are really intriguing.


They come from a variety of genres and background, from those with millions of streams and followers to those with just a few hundred.


We are going through all the artists by genre and we start with the artists of pop and dance today.


(Please note the songs shown are just examples of their work, not what they will be taking to the contest).


Alabama: Ni/Co



This pop duo are from Montgomery, Alabama. They have over 260,000 YouTube subscribers where they perform covers of popular songs. Their videos consistently get over 1 million views.



Georgia: Stela Cole



She is described as being a popstar with "an edge". She has 1 million monthly listeners, 500k followers and is inspired by the Atlanta music scene. Her song 'Love Like Mine' has almost half a million views on YouTube and over 10 million listens on Spotify.



Illinois: Justin Jesso



From Glencoe, Illinois, Justin is a celebrated song writer who has worked with Kygo, Hrvy, The Backstreet Boys, and Ricky Maritn. His song 'Stargazing' with Kygo, where he was a featured artist, has had almost 500 million streams.


Iowa: Alisabeth Von Presley



The pink-haired singer has a theatrical edge and is a fierce advocate for female empowerment. She calls Marion, Iowa home.


Massachusetts: Jared Lee


The Boston-born singer has written written for Jason Derulo, Jordin Sparks and Michael Bolton. He recently worked with Nicky Romero releasing 'Afterglow' earlier this year.


Michigan: Ada LeAnn



At just 16-years-old Ada has released two EPs and multiple covers. Her sound is very current with and records out of Nashville.


Minnesota: Yam Haus


Yam Haus is made up of Lars Pruitt, Jake Felstow, Zach Beinlich and Seth Blum. The Minneapolis based group met in high school but formed theirgroup after college. They say they bring "Minnesota nice" into the pop infused dance floor tracks.


Missouri: Brett Seper



From a small Midwestern town, Fredricktown in Missouri, Brett learned to play the guitar from his grandfather. He says his music inspired by Shawn Mendes and Bazzi, and also has a pop-rock edge. He has played a small amount of festivals and is relatively new to the music scene.


Nebraska: Jocelyn



From Omaha, Jocelyn has toured with Darius Rucker, Hootie and the Blowfish and Barenaked Ladies. She also works with Boys Town National Hotline, to bring her positive music and message to suicide prevention in her state.


Nevada: The Crystal Method



One of the more established artists in the contest, the Crystal Method have been on the scene for more than three decades. The Grammy Award nominated duo are well known for their electronic dance music with big hits in the 90s. '(Can't You) Trip Like I Do' went no.39 in the UK and 'Comin' Back' was a no.1 US Dance hit. They continue to make and produce music today.



New Hampshire: MARi



From Milford, New Hampshire, MARi is of Cuban/Puerto Rican heritage. She has appeared on the Spanish version of The Voice and is also in the fashion industry. Her designs have featured in both New York & London Fashion Week. Her music is a mix of Christian dance, pop and soul.


New Jersey: Brooke Alexx



The Asian-American songwriter, singer, performer, director and editor was inspired to enter music industry by Taylor Swift. Has performed at Lollapalooza and released five singles and one EP.


New York: ENISA



ENISA is of Albanian heritage (which you can hear in her music) and already has an established career with 15 singles and 1 EP released. She is a Graduate of Brooklyn's Edward R. Morrow High School which is renowned for its theatre program and she is signed to Atlantic Records.


Oklahoma: AleXa



Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma to a South Korean mother and Russian-American father. She moved to South Korea at age 21 and has developed a successful K-Pop career. She has released nine singles and two EPs which rack up millions of views and streams.


Oregon: courtship.



The alt-indie pop duo originally from Portland, Oregon (now based in LA) comprise of Micah Gordon and Eli Hirsch. They have toured toured with artists such as Dayglow, Passion Pit, the Hunna, Weezer, the Wombats, Magic City Hippies and Night Riots. Set to release second album later this year.


Texas: Grant Knoche



Originally from Fresco, Texas and now based in LA, Grant taughy himself to create his synth pop music in his bedroom. The singer, TV personality, and YouTuber is well known for playing Liam on Nickelodeon's series ‘Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn’. Formerly part of musical group Kidz Bop Kids.


West Virginia: Alexis Cunningham



Got her start on YouTube before being signed to an independent label in New Jersey. At age 23, she wrote and recorded a folk album with Eric Bazilian ( who wrote 'One Of Us' by Joan Osbourne) and toured Sweden. Also has a slight Eurovision connection: her and Bazilian have since worked with Slovenian producer Martin Stibernik, who was a cowriter on the 2003 Slovenian entry Nanana.
