2022 Grammy Awards: ABBA get nominated for "Record of the Year"

The Recording Academy has announced the nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards and the Eurovision 1974 winners ABBA have become first time nominees.

The Swedish group received a nomination for "Record of the Year" for 'I Still Have Faith In You' along with other songs from the likes of Jon Batiste, Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, Justing Bieber, Brandi Carlile, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo and Silk Sonic.

The award honours "artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to sales or chart position."

Interestingly the first recipient of the "Record of the Year" Grammy was a Eurovision song back in 1959. ‘Nel blu dipinto di blu’ aka 'Volare' by Domenico Modugno won the award. The song also took home the first "Song of the Year" award. It is the first and only foreign language release to win those awards and the only Eurovision song to receive a Grammy Award to date.

ABBA have previously had their 1976 song 'Dancing Queen' inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015.

'I Still Have Faith In You' was released back in September with 'Don't Shut Me Down' and immediately made a chart impact. It is taken from their latest ninth studio album, 'Voyage' and was released 40 years since the band split.

'Voyage' landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, making chart history for the band giving them their first top 10 in the United States. It is also ABBA's 14th charting album on the Billboard 200.

The album also landed at No.1 in dozens of countries around the world.

They weren't the only Eurovision artists part of the Grammy nominations ceremony! This years Eurovision winners, Måneskin, were part of the Grammy nominations ceremony where they helped revealed nominations for the classical categories. They were joined by other announcers, BTS, Jon Batiste and H.E.R. just to name a few, through a virtual livestream event.

Unfortunately the Italian group didn't secure any nominations despite hype surrounding their smash hit cover of 'Beggin'.

We will have to wait until 2022 to see if ABBA win their first "Record of the Year" Grammy.

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards are set to be held on January 31, 2022.
