Now that Canada has revealed how it will select its artist for Eurovision 2027, we thought it was the perfect time to look at 10 artists we’d love to see represent the country.
Canada has revealed its Eurovision 2027 selection process, with CBC/Radio-Canada first choosing an artist before developing their Eurovision song. Artists can apply from 31 August to 9 September, with a shortlist later put to a public vote and music industry jury.
The winning artist will then work with industry professionals to create Canada’s song and staging for its Eurovision debut in Bulgaria.
A couple of months ago, we asked Eurovision fans on our Instagram and the Aussievision team for their dream picks to represent Canada, and these 10 names stood out as exciting possibilities.
10 artists we’d love to see represent Canada
Alessia Cara
A Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, Alessia Cara is known for her heartfelt lyrics and soulful voice, with a string of worldwide hits to her name.
Songs including Here, Scars to Your Beautiful and Stay with Zedd showcase her ability to connect emotionally with listeners. A powerful contemporary ballad or uplifting pop anthem from Alessia could resonate strongly with both juries and televoters.
Cara also holds dual Canadian and Italian citizenship, giving her an Italian connection that could add another layer of interest to her potential Eurovision campaign.
Allie X
Alternative pop artist Allie X has earned a loyal international following through her inventive songwriting and distinctive artistic vision. Her albums have also charted on the Scottish and UK Indie charts.
Known for dark, theatrical pop and striking visual concepts, she would bring plenty of creativity and originality to Eurovision.
The Contest has increasingly rewarded artists with distinctive artistic identities, making Allie X a fascinating option for Canada.
Avril Lavigne
Few Canadian artists have had the global impact of Avril Lavigne. Bursting onto the scene in the early 2000s with hits such as Complicated, Sk8er Boi and I'm With You, she remains one of Canada's most recognisable music exports.
Eurovision has increasingly embraced rock and pop-punk in recent years, and Lavigne's high-energy performances, instantly recognisable sound and decades of stage experience would make her an unforgettable debut representative.
BBNO$
Known for viral hits including Edamame and Lalala, BBNO$ has built an enormous online following thanks to his quirky humour and genre-blending style.
Eurovision loves acts that stand out from the crowd, and BBNO$'s playful personality and unconventional performances could deliver one of the Contest's most memorable entries.
He has already expressed interest in competing. At the Sziget Festival, he told the crowd that he was putting himself forward to represent Canada.
“And bbno$, also known as Alexander Leon Gumuchian from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will be trying to run for Canada.”
It certainly sounds like he’s keen!
Carly Rae Jepsen
While Call Me Maybe introduced Carly Rae Jepsen to the world, she has since earned a devoted fanbase thanks to critically acclaimed pop albums filled with shimmering synth-pop gems.
Many fans have long described her music as “made for Eurovision”. With polished vocals, infectious melodies and feel-good energy, she’d be a strong contender to give Canada an impressive debut.
Faouzia
If Eurovision is about vocal excellence, Faouzia deserves to be in the conversation.
The Moroccan-Canadian singer possesses one of the most impressive voices in modern pop, effortlessly delivering soaring high notes while blending cinematic production with emotional storytelling.
Many Eurovision fans have already identified her as one of Canada's strongest potential representatives, and a dramatic Faouzia performance could certainly make an impact on the Eurovision stage.
Kiesza
Kiesza exploded onto the international charts with Hideaway, bringing dance music, powerful vocals and incredible choreography together.
Her energetic live performances would translate perfectly to the Eurovision stage, where memorable staging and audience engagement can play a huge role in a song's success.
A high-energy dance track from Kiesza could give Canada a memorable debut and showcase another side of the country's music scene.
Les Cowboys Fringants
Canada's debut wouldn't necessarily have to come from the English-language music scene.
Les Cowboys Fringants have been one of Quebec's most beloved bands, celebrated for their folk-rock sound and distinctly Québécois identity.
A French-language entry would showcase Canada's bilingual culture while offering something genuinely unique on the Eurovision stage.
Orville Peck
Masked country singer Orville Peck has become one of Canada's most intriguing musical exports.
Originally from South Africa, the singer moved to Canada in the early 2000s and has built a reputation for his distinctive masked persona, country sound and cinematic storytelling.
He would offer something completely different from a typical Eurovision entry. His mysterious persona, dramatic visuals and country influences could generate enormous interest before the Contest even begins.
His eligibility would, however, depend on meeting Canada's selection requirements, including the relevant citizenship or residency criteria.
Priyanka
Already beloved by many Eurovision fans, Priyanka combines powerhouse vocals with infectious pop anthems and charismatic live performances.
The winner of the first season of Canada's Drag Race has successfully transitioned into music, building a reputation for bold visuals, empowering songs and a larger-than-life stage presence.
Eurovision has long celebrated performers who aren't afraid to go all out, making Priyanka a natural fit for the Contest.
Artists who have expressed interest in representing Canada
As mentioned earlier, BBNO$ has publicly stated that he is keen to represent Canada at Eurovision — but he is not the only one.
Juno Award-winning Canadian dance-pop singer and songwriter Rêve has also expressed interest.
She is best known for her hit singles CTRL + ALT + DEL, which won the 2023 Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year, and Whitney, which reached number one on the US Dance radio chart.
Rêve has publicly spoken about how special the opportunity would be:
“I think it is the biggest honour in literally the entire world to represent Canada on a global stage.”
Many more artists have expressed interest or have been reported by various news outlets as potential contenders. These include Alessandro Montelli, Annalise, Ashley Sienna, Dion Yorkie, December Rose, Fox Revett, Grace of Arc and Sophie Powers, with many more expected to go public soon.
Canada has no shortage of options
Whether Canada opts for an established international superstar or introduces Eurovision audiences to an emerging artist, the country certainly isn't lacking talent.
Pop icons, indie favourites, dance performers, rock legends and francophone artists all offer exciting possibilities, meaning Canada's debut could take almost any musical direction.
One thing seems certain: expectations will be high when Canada finally steps onto the Eurovision stage for the first time in Bulgaria.
This is, of course, just a wish list, and the eventual Canadian representative could be someone entirely different.
But if these fan suggestions prove anything, it's that Canada has an incredibly deep pool of talent to choose from.
Whoever earns the honour of becoming the country's first Eurovision act won't just be competing for a result - they'll be making history.
