bbno$ wants to represent Canada at Eurovision 2027

Canadian rapper bbno$ has thrown his hat in the ring to represent Canada at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
The Vancouver-born artist revealed his intentions on stage over the weekend, telling the crowd that he plans to put himself forward for Canada's first-ever Eurovision entry.
"And because of that, I want you guys to be the first people in the world to know about this information I'm about to tell you right now," he said.
"So, about two to three to four weeks ago, Canada was invited to be in Eurovision.
"And bbno$, also known as Alexander Leon Gumuchian from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will be trying to run for Canada."
He then introduced Eurovision 2024 runner-up Baby Lasagna to the stage, describing the Croatian singer as a "European legend".
Not his first interest in Eurovision
It isn't the first time bbno$ has expressed an interest in Eurovision.
In May 2025, the Canadian-Armenian artist posted a video to TikTok declaring "bbno$ for Eurovision 2026 🇦🇲 Armenia", suggesting he wanted to represent the country of his Armenian heritage. The video was later removed.
Ultimately, that didn't happen.
But Canada's arrival at Eurovision has now opened up a much more direct route to the contest for the Canadian-born star.
He has also collaborated with Eurovision artists including Joost, Kalush Orchestra, Tommy Cash, Little Big and Marcus and Martinus.
Who is bbno$?
The 31-year-old, whose real name is Alexander Leon Gumuchian, is one of Canada's most internationally recognised contemporary artists. He broke through globally with Lalala alongside Y2K in 2019 and later found further success with tracks including Edamame.
He has also won the JUNO Fan Choice Award in both 2025 and 2026.
And even before his latest comments, his name had been circulating among Eurovision fans as a potential Canadian representative. Billboard Canada included bbno$ among the artists fans were suggesting following confirmation of the country's debut.
Canada prepares for its Eurovision debut
Canada's participation in Eurovision 2027 was officially confirmed on July 1.
CBC/Radio-Canada recently became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union, paving the way for the country to join the competition.
Canada will become the first new country to debut at Eurovision since Australia joined in 2015.
However, bbno$ hasn't got the ticket just yet.
CBC/Radio-Canada has not revealed how it will choose Canada's first Eurovision representative, with details of the selection process expected later this year.
He also isn't the only Canadian artist already interested. JUNO Award-winning singer Rêve has confirmed she intends to submit a song, while other artists have publicly expressed interest in representing the country.
Eurovision 2027 will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with the semi-finals on May 11 and 13 and the Grand Final on May 15.
Whether bbno$ makes it to Burgas will now depend on exactly how Canada decides to select its historic first entry.
