Voyager's Danny Estrin gears up for new SBS series Precious Metal

Musician, presenter, story-teller and self-professed car obsessive Danny Estrin of Voyager officially unveiled his latest project on Instagram today.

Precious Metal sees the charismatic front man of Australia’s Eurovision 2023 entrants, progressive rock band Voyager, and this year’s Australian Eurovision coverage co-host return to SBS for a five-part television series beginning in September on SBS.

The factual entertainment show sees the lawyer and musician turned television personality embrace one of his great loves – cars – in a series that highlights obsession, individuality and the soul of the automobile.

According to SBS: “Precious Metal is a love story like no other. Different, passionate people - and the cars that have become their obsession. But this is not just about beauty, speed, aspiration and affluence. In a world of insatiable consumerism, this is a story about individuality and the joy that comes from seeing something beyond the sum of its parts. Join Danny Estrin as we explore what drives people's obsession.”

Bringing out his bright metallic stage costumes from Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, Danny finds car enthusiasts mainly around his home state of WA and spends time with them and their cars getting to know what makes both of them tick.

The show is a love letter to cars of all types and the first episode particularly highlights the freedom they have given the human race throughout the years. It’s part history lesson, part travel log, part love letter and just an interesting, innovative and quirky watch.

And for the man who famously brought a car on to the stage at Eurovision, it feels like a great excuse to tick driving off all sorts of interesting vehicles while also finding out why people love both the quirky and the more mundane and why they are “precious metal”.

Of course, there is also a little of Danny’s music sprinkled in incidentally along the way.
