"That was sensational!": Delta Goodrem impresses with Halloween Week Viennese Waltz on Strictly Come Dancing
Following last week's stunning rumba routine, which earned her the first score of 10 of the series, Delta Goodrem has continued to shine on the Strictly Come Dancing stage, impressing the judges with her performance of the Viennese Waltz to the Righteous Brothers song Unchained Melody.
The dance earned Delta and professional partner Kai Widdrington a score of 33 out of 40, putting them in equal third place overall on the Strictly leaderboard this week.
A sensational performance
Delta and Kai brought a spooky Addams Family-themed Viennese Waltz to the Strictly stage, with the Aussie Eurovision star channelling Morticia Addams as she and her professional dance partner even re-enacted the famous pottery scene from the film Ghost.
The pair received plenty of positive feedback from the judges for their routine.
Anton Du Beke described the routine as "incredible", commenting:
"I absolutely loved that dance. That was sensational!"
Craig Revel-Horwood said of the performance:
"I loved it, it was smooth, you maintained your frame throughout [...] it was so detailed, absolutely gorgeous!"
Motsi Mabuse praised Delta's characterisation of Morticia Addams, remarking:
"I agree, it was great, I loved the fluidity, I love the way you move, I actually love the way you make something so difficult look so easy 'cause it was not easy!"
The judges awarded Delta and Kai 8, 8, 8 and 9 points, giving them a total score of 33 for the night.
The score of 33 placed Delta in equal third place on the leaderboard, equal with Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby who also scored 33 points, and just two points behind runners-up John Nellis and Katya Jones,
Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola topped the Halloween Week leaderboard with 36 points for their chilling Charleston routine.
With 11 couples competing in the Halloween Week show, Delta finished equal second overall, ahead of Will Best and Dianne Buswell as well as Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin on 32 points.
A devilish Halloween Week twist in this week's dance-off
Every week, the public gets to have its say and help decide the show's results in the public vote.
Following the 11 performances, viewers were able to vote for their favourite couples, with the results of the public vote combined with the judges' scores from this week determining which couples are at risk of being eliminated.
This week, however, there is a frightening Halloween Week twist in the dance-off. Instead of two couples dancing off and the judges voting to save a couple from being knocked out of the competition, three couples will face elimination in the dance-off, with the judges voting to eliminate the couple they think should leave Strictly Come Dancing.
The three couples at the bottom of the combined results this week will face each other in the dance-off, with one celebrity ultimately being eliminated.
At the end of Saturday night's show, two couples shared last place on the leaderboard. Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly trainer Graeme Hall and his dance partner Lauren Oakley were at the bottom of the leaderboard on 25 points for their samba to Coconut by Harry Nilsson, while Winter Olympian Tabby Stoecker and her partner Mark Karmalita also scored just 25 points for their quickstep to Black Magic by Little Mix.
Emmerdale actor Lawrence Robb and his dance partner Jowita Przystał completed the bottom three, scoring 26 points for their tango to Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.
The Strictly results show will take place on Sunday evening in the UK, with the three lowest-ranked couples going head-to-head in the dance-off.
What's next for Delta?
Delta and Kai are due to return to the Strictly dancefloor next Saturday, as the competition continues to heat up.
With the Australian singer placing in the podium positions of the Strictly leaderboard every week she has danced, Delta will be hoping to continue her fantastic run of form in the competition.
