"Absolutely incredible": Delta Goodrem wows with cha-cha-cha on Strictly Come Dancing
Following last week's Halloween Viennese waltz, Delta Goodrem has continued to impress on the Strictly Come Dancing stage, wowing the judges with her performance of the cha-cha-cha to the Jennifer Lopez hit Let's Get Loud.
The dance earned Delta and professional partner Kai Widdrington a score of 31 out of 40, putting them in third place overall on the Strictly leaderboard this week.
An energetic performance
Delta and Kai brought plenty of Latin flair to the Strictly stage, with the Aussie Eurovision star delivering a confident cha-cha-cha in a stunning green dress reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez's iconic Versace Grammys dress.
The routine even included a very Eurovision-esque costume reveal!
The pair received plenty of positive feedback from the judges for their routine.
Motsi Mabuse commented:
"I love it, I absolutely love it! I hope J-Lo is sitting at home watching Strictly Come Dancing because she could be proud of this number! First of all, I love the fact that you put your energy into the dance; I can see you were working hard. [...] You are one person in this competition that gives us everything. Your heart is on the dance floor, there is no reserve, you risk it every time, and I love the spice you bring to this competition!"
Anton Du Beke said of the performance:
"I thought you were spectacular; I really loved it! I loved the performance, I loved the energy, I loved the style, your footwork was great!"
Craig Revel-Horwood described the performance as "absolutely incredible", while fellow judge Shirley Ballas remarked: "I loved the choreography [...] everybody loves energy and you have energy."
The judges awarded Delta and Kai 7, 8, 7 and 9 points, giving them a total score of 31 for the night.
The score of 31 placed Delta in third place on the leaderboard, just two points behind runners-up Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita on 33 points.
Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin finished at the top of the leaderboard this week with 36 points for their American Smooth routine.
With nine couples competing in this week's show, Delta finished third overall, ahead of Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu as well as Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola on 30 points.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Jaime Winstone and her professional dance partner Carlos Gu received a bye for this week of the competition due to Jaime suffering from a torn abdominal muscle.
The public has its say
Every week, the public gets to have its say and help decide the show's results in the public vote.
Following the nine performances, viewers were able to vote for their favourite couples, with the results of the public vote combined with the judges' scores from this week determining which two couples are at risk of being eliminated.
The two couples at the bottom of the combined results will face each other in the dance-off, with one celebrity ultimately being eliminated.
At the end of Saturday night's show, two couples finished at the bottom of the leaderboard, scoring just 26 points.
Social media personality John Nellis and his dance partner Katya Jones were in danger of facing the dance-off for their salsa to Get Lucky by Daft Punk, while Love Island winner Cach Mercer and his dance partner Maddie Ingoldsby earned the same score of 26 points, also placing them at risk of elimination.
Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly trainer Graeme Hall and his dance partner Lauren Oakley completed the bottom three, scoring just 28 points for their couple's choice routine to The Book Of Love by Peter Gabriel.
The Strictly results show will take place on Sunday evening in the UK, with the two lowest-ranked couples going head-to-head in the dance-off.
What's next for Delta?
Delta and Kai are due to return to the Strictly dancefloor next Saturday, as the competition reaches the halfway point.
With the Australian singer placing in the podium positions of the Strictly leaderboard every week she has danced, Delta will be hoping to continue her impressive run of form in the competition.
