Australia's Eurovision 2022 representative Sheldon Riley has wowed the crowd at the 2022 NRL Grand Final with a performance of 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World', which took place tonight at the Accor Stadium (Stadium Australia).
The Eurovision star promised a huge performance and he delivered. Sheldon gave a powerful rendition of the Tears For Fears cover, which he previously performed on The Voice Australia in 2019. He was joined by dancers, with wide shots of the stadium and fireworks.
Earlier in the week in a statement with the Sydney Morning Herald Sheldon said:
"Performing at the NRL grand final is such an insane moment for me in my career. To be honest, it’s a stage I never thought I’d have the opportunity to perform on. I’m so honoured and excited to be bringing my voice to this iconic event."
Sheldon's performance was followed by the legendary Aussie singer Jimmy Barnes who was part of the Grand Final entertainment.
The young performer has had a huge year.
Back in February he won 'Eurovision - Australia Decides' 2022 on the Gold Coast with his entry 'Not The Same'. The win earned him a spot in Turin at the Eurovision Song Contest representing Australia. He made the Grand Final and finished in 15th place.
Months later Sheldon competed on the Masked Singer Australia where he finished in the runner-up spot.
The NRL Grand Final spot just tops an amazing year the for rising young talent.
In November Sheldon heads off to the Netherlands to perform at Het Grote Songfestivalfeest 2022 in Amsterdam. The event is a Dutch televised concert which features past Eurovision artists. You can find out the full line-up and more details here.
