Yesterday, Australia's Eurovision 2026 entry was revealed to be Eclipse by Delta Goodrem.
In interviews and through other information during the day, here are five things we've discovered since the release of the song.
1. The inspiration
The song ticks many of the boxes fans might expect from a Eurovision entry — from a soaring key change to the dramatic use of harp, layered with a striking piano riff.
Yesterday during interviews, Delta explained how the concept of an “eclipse” emerged during the writing session. “The morning we were songwriting, we all came in and I said, ‘I’m seeing harps — golden harps.’ One of the other songwriters said, ‘It’s like an eclipse, alignment — we are all aligned.’” That shared vision helped shape both the sound and symbolism of the track.
She has also been mindful of performing in Vienna, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich musical heritage. “I want to stay true to the fact we are in Vienna and [the song is] very Mozart, Beethoven — it comes with a lot of those classical piano influences. So I kind of had that in my mind. That was still very important to me, to my ethos.”
Delta further emphasised that the song carries a deeper meaning beyond romance. “It’s a love song, but it’s also about one love — it’s about moments that are rare and how time is fleeting.”
2. Eurovision connection within the songwriting team
The song was written by Delta Goodrem, Ferras Alqaisi, Jonas Myrin and Michael Fatkin, who also produced the single.
One of the songwriters, Ferras, who is signed to Katy Perry’s record label, has collaborated extensively with Australian artists and brings notable Eurovision links to the team.
He has worked with a number of artists connected to the Contest, including Australian singer-songwriter Michael Paynter (who co-wrote Bite Me for Australia Decides 2022, as well as the Junior Eurovision entries Champion and We Will Rise). Ferras also co-wrote Good News for Eurovision 2010 winner Lena Meyer-Landrut, which she performed in semi-final 1 of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
His other collaborators include Australia’s Eurovision 2018 representative Jessica Mauboy, Damiano David of Måneskin, and Australian artist CXLOE, who co-wrote the Junior Eurovision song Speak Up.
In 2024, one of Ferras' creations officially reached the Eurovision stage. He co-wrote Scared of Heights for Hera Björk, which she performed at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.
3. The song release (almost) coincides with a real eclipse
Delta's Eurovision song was released in Australia on 2 March 2026.
During the day while promoting the release she shared on her Instagram account that there will be a total lunar eclipse on 3 March 2026 in Australia.
The Insta story reads "On March 3, the Moon will turn blood red for 82 minutes, and nearly 6 billion will have [the] chance to witness it."
Delta commented underneath the post "Also.. TOMORROW. We literally take over the skies. #Eclipse. Send me ideas for what we do as we watch!!!"

4. The song cover artwork
There are two versions of the single artwork for Eclipse.

The cover artwork on the left, with Delta wearing the outfit she wears during the night time sequence in her music video which also shows an eclipse effect at the bottom of the "S", is being used on most music streaming services like Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music and Tidal.
The cover artwork on the right shows Delta in a different outfit with a full solar eclipse behind her is being used on Apple Music and for the iTunes download of the song.
5. New album on the way
Delta has signalled that Eclipse is the beginning chapter of a new upcoming album.
When she found out that she will be representing Australia at Eurovision 2026 she went to work on new music with a team over Christmas.
She revealed that she has produced enough songs for an album, which will come as a huge delight to her fans.
Delta's last studio album came out in 2021 with Bridge over Troubled Dreams, which was her last album release under Sony Music.
In 2022 Delta launched her own independent music label, ATLED Records, taking full creative control of her music. The upcoming studio album will be her first ever independent album release.
