Yesterday, SBS finally confirmed that Australia would indeed be competing at Eurovision 2025.
And almost immediately fans started wondering who would represent the nation in Basel.
One name that has popped up for a myriad of reasons is Guy Sebastian.
Guy was the debut entry for Australia at Eurovision 2015 when he finished 5th with Tonight Again.
Since then, he has been rather quiet on the Eurovision front.
However, that has changed in 2024 leading up to the Contest and this is why fans believe he could be Australia's entry.
Here are the reasons why:
Het Grote Songfestivalfeest
Guy is performing in the Dutch live Eurovision concert and TV event Het Grote Songfestivalfeest.
Its translation is "Big Eurovision Party" which is exactly what it is. It is a huge live TV and event extravaganza featuring big name former Eurovision acts.
Not only is Guy performing but he has top billing with two-time winner Loreen.
This is quite the big deal and an unusual move for Guy.
However, if he was going to be looking to break more ground in Europe, this is the very event he could start from.
The Voice
Guy Sebastian has been a judge on The Voice Australia for the last six seasons.
Yesterday, he sensationally announced that he would be leaving the show.
"For me right now, it's time to focus more on my core, which is writing and performing new music," he said in his statement.
"'I am busy planning shows in Australia & worldwide & I am really looking forward to getting out and connecting with you all there."
The Voice Australia films anywhere between February and June, right during Eurovision and its build-up.
Fans have pointed to this gap in his schedule as another reason he may go to Eurovision.
Guy also mentioned Eurovision on the show this year after Australian-Armenian Eurovision artist MJ O'Doherty auditioned.
"How fun was that by the way? It was the most fun thing I've ever done. It literally felt like The Hunger Games with all the countries coming out with their flags," he said.
"There was something so beautiful about it."
10th anniversary
2025 is significant as its the 10th anniversary of Australia's debut at Eurovision.
What better way to celebrate that than with the artist who started it back then - Guy Sebastian!
SBS tend to like to bookend these moments. Jessica Mauboy was selected as our last internal artist before Australia Decides began to conclude the chapter of her performance as an interval act in 2014.
Whether or not, Guy Sebastian eventuates, it's nice that Aussie fans can start getting excited for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
