We profile Australia's 2026 entry including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

Australia's Eurovision journey as a competing nation started strongly with four top 10 finishes in our first five years at the Contest. But recent fortunes have changed and for the first time ever in 2025 we failed to qualify to the final for the second year in a row.

Dami Im's Sound of Silence (2016) remains our best ever result, finishing in 2nd place in only our second year at the Contest. Guy Sebastian (2015, 5th place) is our only other top five finisher with Isaiah Firebrace (2017, 9th place), Kate Miller-Heidke (2019, 9th place) and Voyager (2023, 9th place) also cracking the top 10.

Flying the Aussie flag at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna is singer, songwriter and television personality Delta Goodrem with her song Eclipse.

You can find out more about Delta and her song below!

About the artist

One of Australia’s most accomplished and globally recognised performers, Delta Goodrem, 41, is among the biggest names ever selected to compete for the country at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Long rumoured as a potential Eurovision contender, fans put her on top of Aussievision's survey for the second straight year as the artist readers most want to see represent Australia.

It is difficult to summarise a career as long and successful as Delta's so perhaps we should start with a quick summary from the lady herself!

Starting piano lessons at the age of 7, along with singing, dancing and acting lessons, Delta appeared in several television advertisements and had minor roles on several well known Australian television programs. At the age of thirteen, Goodrem recorded a five-song demo CD, financed through her television work which was sent to the AFL club she supported - the Sydney Swans. This was passed on to talent manager Glenn Wheatley who signed her to an artist development deal with independent record label, Empire Records.

By 15, she was signed to Sony Music and in November 2001 released first single I Don't Care, reaching a peak of No 64 on the ARIA Singles Chart. A re-evaluation of her musical direction saw Delta cast as aspiring singer Nina Tucker in soap opera Neighbours and a relaunch of her music career followed. Single Born to Try was launched on the show and reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and the New Zealand singles chart, and number three in the UK. Goodrem's role on the show also scored her a Logie for Most Popular New Talent at the Logie Awards of 2003. Follow-up singles Lost Without You, Innocent Eyes, Not Me, Not I and Predictable also all reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart with Goodrem becoming the first artist to have five number-one singles from a debut album. The first three singles also charted within the top 10 in the United Kingdom.

Debut album Innocent Eyes (2003) became a record-breaking success, spending 29 weeks at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and becoming one of the highest-selling Australian albums of all time.

In July of 2003, Delta, then 18, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. It was during this time that she won seven ARIA Music Awards including Best Female Artist at the 2003 Aria Awards.

Reflecting on that period of her life, Goodrem said -

"It's weird to see pictures of that time. In some ways the fact that I was so sick was so out there, and yet I kept it really private. No-one saw me on the days I was really sick. I was 18 when I was diagnosed and I had a number one album and single in the country. And in the UK, I was number two. It was such a bipolar year."

Undergoing extensive treatment, Delta made a full recovery and followed the initial success of her debut album with multiple chart-topping releases, including Mistaken Identity (2004), written during her battle with cancer, and later albums such as Delta (2007), Child of the Universe (2012), Wings of the Wild (2016) Christmas album Only Santa Knows (2020) and Bridge over Troubled Dreams (2021). This gave her a total of five number-one albums and nine number-one singles in Australia.

Delta also continued acting, starring in movies such as 2005's Hating Alison Ashley, and in more recent years playing Olivia Newton-John in the 2018 mini-series Olivia: Hopelessly Devoted to You and co-starring with Joshua Sasse in 2023 Netflix movie Love is in the Air.

In 2012, Delta joined Joel Madden, Seal and Keith Urban as one the inaugural coaches on Season 1 of The Voice Australia. After Season 2, she moved to The Voice Kids where she was coach to winner Alexa Curtis who went on to represent Australia at the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

After the demise of the junior version of the show, Delta returned to The Voice Australia for Season 4 and remained with the show for a further six seasons. During this time she coached two winners including Season 5 (2016) winner Alfie Arcuri (Eurovision Australia Decides 2019). Sheldon Riley, Australia's Eurovision entrant in 2022 was also coached by Delta in Season 8 (2019) as was Jordan Anthony, Australia's Junior Eurovision contestant in 2019.

Over the years, Delta has performed with acts such as Westlife, Olivia Newton-John and Robbie Williams and has supported artists of the calibre of Andrea Bocelli, Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys and Shania Twain. She notably opened the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne with Together We Are One and has even turned her hand to musical theatre starring as Grizabella in the Australian version of Cats in 2015/16.

In 2020, Goodrem released a charity single titled Let it Rain, and also performed as part of three major charity concerts, Fire Fight Australia to raise funds for the 2019–2020 Australia bushfire crisis, as well as One World: Together at Home and Music from the Home Front to raise money in support of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022, Goodrem was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2022 Australia Day Honours for "significant service to the not-for-profit sector, and to the performing arts".

2023 saw Delta move away from Sony Music founding her own independent music label ATLED Records from which she continues to release music, including her 2026 Eurovision entry Eclipse.

Goodrem’s influence extends beyond music through her philanthropy and advocacy. She has used her platform to support health and charity initiatives, serving as patron of The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, Sydney and being an ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Sony Foundation Australia.

She has also been involved with various charities and awareness campaigns and including founding the Delta Goodrem Foundation in partnership with St. Vincent's Hospital and The Kinghorn Cancer Centre in 2020 to fund blood cancer research.

In June 2025, Delta married fellow musician Matthew Copley in Malta.

About the song

Eclipse was released on 1 March 2026 via ATLED Records. The song was co-written by Goodrem with producer Michael Fatkin, alongside Jonas Myrin and Ferras Alqaisi.

Ferras, who is signed to Katy Perry’s record label, has collaborated extensively with Australian artists and brings notable Eurovision links to the team.

He has worked with a number of artists connected to the Contest, including Australian singer-songwriter Michael Paynter (who co-wrote Bite Me for Australia Decides 2022, as well as the Junior Eurovision entries Champion and We Will Rise). Ferras also co-wrote Good News for Eurovision 2010 winner Lena Meyer-Landrut, which she performed in semi-final 1 of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.

His other collaborators include Australia’s Eurovision 2018 representative Jessica Mauboy, Damiano David of Måneskin, and Australian artist CXLOE, who co-wrote the Junior Eurovision song Speak Up.

Myrin first conceived the idea for Eclipse while on a flight to Australia, and later travelled to Sydney in November 2025 to work on it after Goodrem was confirmed as Australia’s representative. He explained that the song draws on the feeling of rare, almost otherworldly moments that resemble “glimpses of heaven,” using an eclipse as a metaphor for connection and harmony.

The song’s structure and classical piano riffs were inspired by the musical heritage of the host city, Vienna, specifically the works of Mozart and Beethoven.

About Eclipse, Delta says -

"It’s a love song, but it’s also about one love — it’s about moments that are rare and how time is fleeting."

How was Delta Goodrem chosen for Eurovision?

On 26 February 2026, the EBU announced through an Instagram post that SBS had internally selected the Australian entrant and entry for the contest and that they would be revealed on 1 March. The video then premiered on the official YouTube channel on 1 March with the entrant announced as Delta Goodrem with the song Eclipse. About representing Australia Delta says -

"I'm so honoured to represent Australia on one of the biggest and most iconic music stages in the world at Eurovision. As a singer-songwriter, music has been my lifelong passion. I've always loved the creativity, individuality, and joy Eurovision brings, connecting and uniting people across the globe through music; the universal language. I can't wait to arrive in Vienna and make Australia proud."

Australia will compete in semi-final 2 of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest on 14 May 2026 in Vienna.
