Eurovision 2024: Which age groups like which songs?

This week, we revealed the results of our public poll on the Eurovision songs of 2024.

Baby Lasagna for Croatia took out the top spot and we also revealed the full list from 1st to 37th.

So Croatia won every age group except 24-year-olds and under as well as the 55 years and over.

Those two age groups were won by The Netherlands (with Switzerland equal first with the younger).

What generation gap eh?

Which songs were loved by all?

Only three songs made each age group's Top 10. They were:

  • Croatia: Baby Lasagna - 'Rim Tim Tagi Dim'

  • Switzerland: Nemo - 'The Code'

  • Austria: Kaleen - 'We Will Rave'

Croatia and Switzerland aren't too much of a surprise being the betting favourites.

However, Austria has managed to get cut through in every age possible. She finished 6th, 8th, 6th, 7th and 8th for a remarkably consistent result. Well done Kaleen!

Bookenders

Several songs did better with younger audiences and older audiences but not as strong in the middle.

This was most apparent with Ireland and Norway. Both nations were in the Top 10 of both 24 and under and 55+ but didn't do as well with the 25-54 age group (Norway did finish 10th in 45-54 though).

Although not quite as strong, this was also seen with The Netherlands who finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 18th and then 1st again.

Are younger and older audiences more open to risk perhaps?

Which skew younger or older?

With some songs, their results gradually got better or worse the older you went.

Belgium did consistently better: 11th, 10th, 8th, 5th and then 4th. So the older you are, the more you should enjoy it.

Latvia also experienced similar to this finishing: 35th, 29th, 29th, 24th and 26th.

On the flip side, Spain (surprisingly) did better with younger audiences. They finished 8th, 14th, 14th, 20th and 17th.

Portugal mirrored their trend almost exactly finishing: 19th, 25th, 25th, 34th and 30th.

Other tidbits

  • Australia's sweet spot was the 45-54 age group where they finished 3rd

  • Estonia's sole Top 10 finish was with the 25-34 year olds

  • Finland had a significantly higher result than average with the 45-54 year olds, finishing 12th.

  • Greece's only Top 10s were with those between 35-54 years old

  • Luxembourg's only Top 10 was with the 24 and unders

  • Both Italy and Netherlands struggled with the 45-54 bracket, finishing outside the Top 10

  • The UK did well with all ages except the 55+ where it finished 26th

So that's our wrap of the age differences.
