Eurovision 2020 allocation draw - Australia in semi final one

Overnight the semi final allocation draw was made in Rotterdam's City Hall.

Nations were placed in five different pots based on previous voting patterns to avoid potential 'neighbour voting' bias.

Not only would the country find out which semi final they were in, they would also find out which half they were performing in.

Australia drew Semi Final 1 taking place on Tuesday 12 May. Australia will perform in the first half of that semi final. But who else will be in our semi final?

First half

  • North Macedonia

  • Belarus

  • Lithuania

  • Sweden

  • Slovenia

  • Australia

  • Ireland

  • Russia

Second half

  • Norway

  • Cyprus

  • Croatia

  • Azerbaijan

  • Malta

  • Israel

  • Ukraine

  • Romania

  • Belgium

Voting in our semi final from the big five and hosts are Germany, Italy and The Netherlands.

Previous to the draw we did analysis on who we wanted to get and who we wanted to avoid from each pot.

In good news we drew Sweden, Norway, Malta, Israel, Belgium and Belarus who were our top choices from each pot.

In bad news we drew Croatia, Azerbaijan, Ireland Italy who were are bottom choices in each pot.

We also didn't draw Poland or Georgia for the very first time, they have been in every one of our semi finals since 2016.

Full details on each nation and if they vote higher or lower than average for us.

Countries that have given us higher than average points for us on most occasions (combined jury and televote, % in the amount of times more than average)

  • Sweden - 100%

  • Germany - 86%

  • Israel - 86%

  • Belgium - 75%

  • Norway - 71%

  • Malta - 67%

Countries that vote below than average for us on most occasions

  • Belarus - 43%

  • Lithuania - 40%

  • North Macedonia - 33%

  • The Netherlands - 33%

  • Italy - 33%

  • Cyprus - 29%

  • Slovenia - 22%

  • Ukraine - 20%

  • Romania -20%

  • Russia - 20%

  • Azerbaijan - 17%

  • Ireland - 17%

Croatia has a 50% record of voting higher than average.

So overall a mixed bag, but not a bad draw for Australia.
