Dates for the American Song Contest revealed

The American Song Contest is set to finally debut in a massive two-hour premiere episode on NBC on Monday, 21 February, 2022!

The Contest, which has been in planning for several years now, will feature no less than 56 artists and entries competing for the title of Best Original Song in the competition. The performances will represent all 50 American states, along with five U.S. territories, as well as Washington, D.C.

The live shows will feature three qualifying rounds, two semi-finals, and a massive Grand Final, where one state or territory will come out on top.

In a two-part interview on the podcast Eurovision Legends earlier this year, Christer Björkman likened the American Song Contest to a perfect balance between the Eurovision Song Contest and Swedish national final Melodifestivalen.

The American Song Contest will fill part of the gap left in the NBC schedule by the twenty-first season of the American version of 'The Voice', which is expected to finish broadcasting next month.

The American Song Contest is being executive produced by some of the biggest names in the Eurovision sphere over the last two decades, with the likes of Sweden's former head of delegation, and mastermind behind the famed Melodifestivalen national final, Christer Björkman, along with Audrey Morrissey, Anders Lenhoff, Peter Settman, Ola Melzig, Gregory Lipstone, Ben Silverman, and Howard T. Owens.

News is still set to come around about the potential host city, although Christer Björkman has already teased in The Euro Trip podcast that the cities of Las Vegas, Tampa, and Orlando are already being considered as potential host cities.
