American Song Contest: Second qualifying show



The second show of the American Song Contest is due to take place next week, Monday 28 March (Tuesday 29 March in Australia).


So who is competing this week in the live show hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg?

Jordan Smith - 'Sparrow' (Kentucky)


Jordan is best known for winning the ninth season of 'The Voice' in 2015, where he became the biggest selling artist from the franchise. He has released three solo albums, with all appearing on the US Christian or Adult Contemporary charts.



Courtship - 'Million Dollar Smoothies' (Oregon)


Courtship are a duo comprising Micah Gordon and Eli Hirsch. They met at a gig in Los Angelese where both were session musicians. Micah is classically trained jazz pianist. The two have toured with artists such as Dayglow, Passion Pit, the Hunna, Weezer, the Wombats, Magic City Hippies and Night Riots. They are set to release second album later this year.



Enisa - 'Green Light' (New York)


ENISA is of Albanian heritage and already has an established career with 15 singles and 1 EP released. She is a Graduate of Brooklyn's Edward R. Morrow High School which is renowned for its theatre program and she is signed to Atlantic Records.



Broderick Jones - 'Tell Me' (Kansas)


Broderick has over 35 million streams since first releasing music back in 2017. The singer-songwriter is known for his smooth vocals and has dreams of being the biggest ever artist from Kansas.



Almira Zaky - 'Over You' (Virginia)


24-year-old R&B singer/songwriter is known as “the little girl with the big voice”. Almira is an Indonesian-Muslim and has felt like an outsider because of her background. Music is how she relates to others. She's also a Public Relations and Business graduate. Almira is inspired by artists such as Kehlani, Jhene Aiko, Jojo and Ariana Grande.



Cruz Rock - 'Celebrando' (US Virgin Islands)


Cruz Rock (aka Frankie Garcia) is a singer-songwriter and producer from the territory of the US Virgin Islands in the Carribeans. Cruz's heritage traces back to Trinidad and Tobago as well as the nearby Puerto Rico.



Jonah Prill - 'Fire it Up' (Montana)


From Billings in Montana, Jonah has gained a huge following of millions on TikTok showing his country "cowboy" lifestyle and his journey to become a country musician. His grandfather is country singer Dean Evans and he is inspired by Garth Brooks.



Jocelyn - 'Never Alone' (Nebraska)


From Omaha, Jocelyn has toured with Darius Rucker, Hootie and the Blowfish and Barenaked Ladies. She also works with Boys Town National Hotline, to bring her positive music and message to suicide prevention in her state.



King Kyote - 'Get Out Alive' (Maine)


From Portland, Maine, King Kyote is an experience musician who has toured extensively around the country with acts such as Ghosts of Paul Revere, Rustic Overtones and The Mallet Brothers Band.



Chloe Fredericks - 'Can't Make You Love Me' (North Dakota)


Chloe grew up on a ranch in North Dakota and is inspired by Sheryl Crow, Bob Dylan, Kasey Musgraves and Amy Winehouse. She released her first EP in 2019 and released a further two singles in 2021.



Macy Gray - 'Every Night' (Ohio)


Macy Gray is a global star who has released 10 albums and received five Grammy Award nominations. She is best known for her debut 1999 album 'On How Life Is' which sold over 7 million copies worldwide. It featured the hit single 'I Try' which went no.1 in multiple countries including Australia. Macy also appeared recently on 'The Masked Singer Australia'.



Can I watch it in Australia?


Australians may need to get "creative" as no Australian service will be broadcasting the show.


The show starts at 8:00pm Eastern Time in the United States, which is 11:00am AEDT here in Australia.


The performances are uploaded on to the official NBC YouTube channel after the show.

The American Song Contest is based on the 'Eurovision Song Contest' and will feature no less than 56 artists and entries competing for the title of Best Hit Song in the competition. The performances will represent all 50 American states, along with five U.S. territories, as well as Washington, D.C. Grand Final will take place just one day before the 'Eurovision Song Contest' is set to take place in Turin, Italy on May 10.
