Jessica Mauboy will represent Australia at Eurovision 2018

SBS announced today that Jessica Mauboy will represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018.

Jess previously represented Australia as a non-competing interval act at the 2014 contest in Copenhagen where she sung 'Sea of Flags'.

Following the performance Australia were granted a wildcard into the 2015 contest and have competed ever since. She will be the second Indigenous performer for Australia in a row after Isaiah Firebrace last year, keeping Australia's proud commitment to celebrating diversity.

She told SBS: "I will sing my heart out for Australia. I'm so proud to be officially representing my country and a little bit nervous – mainly about the stress of the dress."

She also went on to say she was "very competitive" and that "it comes down to having a really great song, something that is really catchy".

Mauboy came to fame in Australia after finishing runner-up in the 2006 Australian Idol. Former Eurovision contestant for Australia, Guy Sebastian won Australian Idol in 2003

Since then Mauboy has had nine top 10 hits in Australia and has also acted in movies such as The Sapphires (alongside Chris O'Dowd) and is currently lead actress in Australian television drama, The Secret Daughter.
