With North Macedonia's expected return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 after a five-year absence, attention is already turning to who could carry the nation's hopes back onto the Eurovision stage.
One name continues to stand out above the rest: Australian-Macedonian singer Bobby Andonov aka Bobi.
The Melbourne-born artist hasn't hidden his ambitions. He has publicly confirmed he has spoken with Macedonian broadcaster, Macedonian Radio Television (MRT), about representing the country and has even outlined his artistic vision for a Eurovision campaign.
Here are a few reasons why Bobby could be the ideal choice.
He's already represented North Macedonia internationally
Very few potential Eurovision artists already know what it's like to perform under their country's flag.
At just 14-years-old Bobi represented North Macedonia at Junior Eurovision in 2008, with the song Prati Mi SMS, delivering one of the country's best ever results with fifth place.
That experience means he understands the pressure, expectations and pride that come with representing the nation on an international stage.
Almost two decades later, he returns as a far more experienced performer, songwriter and recording artist.
Rather than being a newcomer, Bobi would arrive with years of industry experience behind him.
He's made it clear Eurovision is more than just another gig
Bobby has repeatedly expressed that representing North Macedonia at Eurovision is a genuine career goal.
Back in July 2025 in an interview with Слободен Печат (Sloboden Pechat), one of North Macedonia’s leading daily newspapers, he said:
"Macedonia is in my blood. As an artist, I have grown a lot and now I feel ready to bring something strong back to the country that raised me. Eurovision seems to me like the perfect opportunity to connect with the people and give something valuable."
He revealed he had already spoken with MRT and wanted to create a Eurovision entry that blends his cinematic pop style with authentic Macedonian influences.

That level of passion matters.
For a country making its long-awaited return, having an artist who genuinely wants to represent North Macedonia could make all the difference.
Australia has become an unlikely Eurovision export
Australian artists have quietly built an impressive reputation at Eurovision, even when representing other countries.

Most recently, Australian singer Andrew Lambrou returned Cyprus back into the Eurovision Grand Final in 2023 with Break a Broken Heart.
In 2024, Melbourne-born Silia Kapsis also comfortably qualified for Cyprus with Liar.
Australian performers representing other nations currently boasts a 100% qualification record!
North Macedonia has only qualified for the Eurovision Grand Final twice since 2008 and only six times since the introduction of semi-finals in 2004.
While past results never guarantee future success, Australian artists have consistently demonstrated strong vocals, polished staging and professionalism on the Eurovision stage.
Bobi would continue that tradition while representing his family's homeland and possibly get North Macedonia back into a Eurovision Grand Final.
The Macedonian diaspora could rally behind him
Australia is home to one of the largest Macedonian communities outside Europe, with particularly strong communities in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
Officially, there are well over 100,000 Macedonian Australians, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 Census.

Combined with Macedonian communities across Europe and the Rest of the World vote, Bobi could attract support from audiences who identify with both his heritage and his story.
Diaspora support alone never wins Eurovision, but it can provide valuable momentum in the televote when paired with a competitive song.
His music feels ready for today's Eurovision
One of Bobi's biggest strength is that his music already sounds current.
His catalogue leans into cinematic, atmospheric pop, filled with emotion, modern production and memorable hooks.
Eurovision has increasingly rewarded contemporary songs that feel at home on streaming playlists rather than entries created solely for the Contest.
Bobi's sound naturally fits that trend.
His latest EP SAINT released in 2024 showcases his unique smooth falsetto vocals and high quality production with infectious melodies.
Better still, he has already said he'd want to combine that modern production with Macedonian musical influences, creating something that feels both internationally competitive and uniquely something from North Macedonia.
North Macedonia's fresh start
North Macedonia's return to Eurovision in 2027 represents a fresh start.
It's an opportunity to reintroduce a country to millions of viewers, while making an renewed impact.
Bobi brings international experience, connections across Australia, Europe and the United States, an existing fanbase and a clear artistic identity.
Reports have even indicated he previously presented MRT with ideas not only for a song, but also for promotion, staging and a broader Eurovision campaign.
That level of preparation suggests he sees Eurovision as a complete artistic project rather than simply a three-minute performance.
The broadcaster could choose an established domestic star, discover a new talent, or look to someone who combines international experience with deep Macedonian roots.
Bobi Andonov ticks a remarkable number of boxes.
Whether MRT ultimately chooses him remains to be seen.
But if North Macedonia is looking to make an immediate impact on its Eurovision return, it's difficult to argue against Bobi being one of the strongest candidates available.
