We asked ChatGPT to write a Eurovision song, here are the results!

ChatGPT has captured world attention as an Artificial Intelligence chat program that generates human-like responses for those using it.

It can hold conversations and follow instructions including writing article and essays on just about any topic, with a little guidance.

This is causing plagiarism worries as well as concerns about what this may mean for creative industries in the future.

So, we decided to test it out in the field of Eurovision and asked ChatGPT to write a song for our beloved song contest.

Here is the result:

Song title: 'Shine like a Fire'

Verse 1:

Dancing in the moonlight, feeling so alive

This moment feels like magic, just you and I

The stars align and the rhythm takes hold

We'll leave our worries behind, let our spirits unfold

Chorus:

Come on and raise your voice, let the music be our guide

With every beat, we'll bring the world alive

We'll shine like a fire, burning bright and bold

This is where our dreams unfold

From the mountains to the ocean, we'll cross the great divide

Look... we've heard worse over the years!

Interestingly the most frequently used words by ChatGPT in 'Shine Like a Fire' were:

Music and world (4 times)

Beat, dream, fire, guide and voice (3 times)

But don't worry there was at least one "love" and one "peace" in there!

So is that how you write a song? Although ChatGPT can write the lyrics, it can't write the actual music to it, so it's not quite there yet.

But we did want to know more about the song, so we asked which country it would be best suited for. It told us,

"As an AI language model, I don't have personal opinions or preferences, but it's common for many countries to participate in Eurovision and the choice of which country would sing this song would depend on a variety of factors such as the popularity of the song, the availability of a suitable performer, and the country's selection process for Eurovision. Ultimately, any country that is eligible to participate in Eurovision and wishes to perform the song "Shine Like a Fire" would be able to do so."

So ChatGPT isn't picky! Maybe an entry to Malta's MESC, a general Scandinavian selection or a Baltic six week long national final?

We pressed it for more details on this modern classic and it did tell us the genre and general nature of the song:

It has similarities to songs in the pop and dance genres that have positive messages and encourage people to come together, dance, and celebrate. So there you have it, ChatGPT's attempt of a Eurobanger for the competition.

Although this is not the first time AI and Eurovision have crossed paths.

In 2020 the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Song Contest was held by Dutch organisers with Australia taking out the crown!

So while AI, still has a fair way to go to replace creatives in various fields, it will be something to watch and how it may impact these industries.
