'Eurovision - Australia Decides' 2022 artist Sheldon Riley has revealed that he will be performing 'Not the Same' at Australia Decides and shared further details on his performance.
'Not the Same' was written by Sheldon back in 2015. In an article with The Sydney Morning Herald he shared that he wrote the song six years ago and has continually been working on it. He went on to give it a major revamp turning it into a "dark Bond movie-inspired orchestral pop number".
About his Australia Decides entry Sheldon stated:
“It was actually never supposed to be a Eurovision song; it was more a reflection on me and how far I’ve come and what I’ve learnt about myself... It’s reflective of not being the same as everybody else. Most Eurovision songs are very big, and they’re for everyone, but this one … you really get invited into a one-on-one conversation. It’s very personal.”
In the article Sheldon also revealed that his costume for the Australia Decides performance is by Anthony Capon of Melbourne fashion brand, Et Al, who helped to design Sheldon's original concept.
Anthony joined Et Al back in 2008. The designer is a former Project Runway Australia winner, and is known for his innovative androgynous designs.
Back in August last year Anthony worked with Eurovision 2017 artist, and fellow 'Australia Decides 2022' competitor, Isaiah Firebrace, in a photoshoot for Et Al.
In regards to his 'Australia Decides' outfit Sheldon explained:
“It’s ridiculous... The outfit is so insanely beautiful. It’s taken hours and hours and hours to make … it’s something I’ve wanted to wear for a very long time that I haven’t been able to do. It’s very dark, ethereal.”
Along with the amazing costume Sheldon will also be performing with a mask, Sheldon's trademark when performing. He will be wearing a crystal mask by House of Emmanuele.
The Australian jeweller has worked with many big artists including Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry. Sheldon has worn many of their works before.
Back in late December 2021 Sheldon premiered 'Not the Same' for the 'John Foreman's Aussie Pops Orchestra - New Year's Eve & The Night Before' show. Sheldon revealed a snippet of his performance, which you can check out here.
It is not yet known when Sheldon will officially release his Australia Decides single.
