Team comments
"Despite just a 40% qualifying record, I've rated Croatia reasonably high because their 2010s were disastrous. They had just two qualifiers the whole decade and they've already equalled that, and, with their best ever result of 2nd in 2024. When they have missed the final they've been close with 11th, 11th and 12th. The downside is Dora, their national final. It is very hit and miss in quality, production and what the jury favours." ~ Dale
"Mixed fortunes for the country at first, but 2025 saw its success following a runner-up finish last year fell off the cliff. The reason 2021's and 2022's entries missed out of qualification is due to increased competitiveness among the other countries in their respective semi-finals, but 2025's non-qualification is more than that. I agree with Dale on this, the Dora is the major downside." ~ John Christian
"Much like Finland and Kaarija - Baby Lasagna's almost-Cinderella story is the obvious highlight in this period for Croatia. But much like Windows95Man the following year, Poison Cake's poor showing this year failed to continue the momentum to show that they could be emerging as a new powerhouse. Finding an act through Dora next year that can return Croatia to the final would be a good next goal for them, and preferably someone without the baggage of failed previous attempts." ~ Kiel
"Croatia is a country that doesn't have a historically great track record at the contest, but with a second place, a left hand side of the scoreboard result and three near misses- it's going okay for them this decade.
I agree with my fellow contributors. Dora needs an overhaul." ~ Fleur
"Tick-Tock deserved so much better. Baby Lasagna’s zero to hero story is the stuff of Eurovision legend.
Mama ŠČ was bonkers, but I eventually caught up to what it was trying to do. It worked in the end, for me.
Guilty Pleasure is a great song, but just a bit generic. Poison Cake was a miss.
All in all Croatia may not bring deftly crafted musical genius, but they consistently deliver Eurovision moments." ~ Troy
"Croatia has had a mixed history at Eurovision. When Yugoslavia competed at Eurovision 13 out of its 27 entries were from Croatia - the most out of any of the Yugoslav socialist republics. Yugoslavia's sole Eurovision victory in 1989, Rock Me, was by a Croatian band Riga. However as Dale has pointed out its recent history, particular two qualifications in the 2010s, is diabolical. I also agree with Dale that despite a 40% qualification rate, its three non-qualifications have been close near misses. A second place for a country with less than 4 million people is impressive, especially given they won the tele-vote. Personally I think Croatia really should've won in 2024, so hopefully they get a second bite at the Eurovision title cherry soon!" ~ Sam
