Flying the flag for Ukraine at this year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Tbilisi is Sofia Nersesian with her entry Motanka.

You can find details on the entry, the artist, and Ukraine's history at Junior Eurovision below.

About the artist: Sofia Nersesian

Sofia Nersesian is a 10-year-old singer from Kyiv. Of Armenian-Ukrainian heritage, Sofia is a dedicated volunteer who loves to take part in charity concerts.

Sofia was previously included in the list of hopefuls who applied for Ukraine's national selection for Junior Eurovision 2024, but 2025 was her lucky year, earning the right to represent Ukraine at Junior Eurovision after winning their pre-selection show on 12 October.

Sofia says that when the city falls asleep, she makes a wish: to perform on the Junior Eurovision stage. She truly believes that if you dream hard enough, your wish will come true.

About the song: Motanka

Motanka tells the story of one of the most powerful Ukrainian talismans, a traditional handmade doll that mothers give to their children at birth. During wartime, this symbol gains a deeper meaning. According to legend, when danger approaches a child, the threads of the motanka begin to glow. The song is a call from the children of Ukraine to have their lives protected.

Motanka was written by Svitlana Tabarova, a Ukrainian singer, songwriter, music producer, and actress. She has served as the music producer for Ukraine's Junior Eurovision national final and penned Ukraine's two most recent Junior Eurovision entries: Kvitka, which placed fifth in 2023, and Hear Me Now, which came third in 2024, giving Ukraine its best result in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in over a decade.

Ukraine in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Ukraine has competed at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2006 and has had some significant success during this lengthy period of participation.

Ukraine's last victory in this competition was in 2012, with the song Nebo, performed by 10-year-old Anastasiya Petryk.

Ukraine has also had the opportunity to host the competition twice in 2009 and 2013, both times in Kyiv.

In 2023, Ukraine achieved its first top-5 result since 2018 with Anastasia Dymyd's song Kvitka. Last year, Ukraine continued its top-5 streak, achieving an impressive 3rd place finish with the entry Hear Me Now by Artem Kotenko.

We will find out in December if Sofia can continue this fantastic run of success!
