Junior Eurovision 2023 Malta Profile: 'Stronger' by Yulan

This year, the small island nation of Malta is being represented at Junior Eurovision by Yulan Law with her song 'Stronger'.

You can find details on the entry, the artist, and history of Malta at Junior Eurovision below!

About the artists: Yulan

Yulan Law is a 14-year-old Maltese-born singer who has been singing since the age of five. Despite her young age, she has extensive experience singing in competitions and has competed in The Voice Kids Malta and Malta's Got Talent. She can also play the piano and the violin.

Yulan was chosen to represent Malta when she won this year's edition of Malta's national selection process, the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She has previously competed for the chance to represent her country on three occasions, in 2019, 2020 and 2021. This year, it seems like it was fourth time lucky!

About the entry: 'Stronger'

Following Yulan's win at Malta Junior Eurovision, there was a call for composers to submit songs for her to sing. 'Stronger' is written and produced by a team of Swedish songwriters: John-Emil Johansson, Sandra Wikström, Isak Alvedahl, Elise Hedengren as well as Yulan. Some members of this team have written songs for other Eurovision artists before, including two Eurovision winners in the form of Måns Zelmerlöw and Emmelie de Forest.

The song is a ballad that shows off the power of Yulan's voice. The lyrics are about empowerment and being strong, with lyrics like "You're so much more than you know."

Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Malta is one of the mainstay countries at Junior Eurovision, having missed only two contests since the Contest's launch in 2003.

They proved to be formidable competition in the early 2010s, coming in the top six every year from 2013 to 2018 bar one. During this period, they also won the contest twice, with Gaia Cauchi's 'The Start' in 2013 and Destiny Chukunyere's 'Not My Soul' in 2015. Destiny, of course, would later return to represent Malta at the main Eurovision event in 2021, where she came seventh with her song 'Je me casse'.

Junior Eurovision 2023 will be held in Nice on 26 November 2023 (27 November 2023 in Australia).
