This year Portugal is being represent at Junior Eurovision 2022 by Nicolas Alves with the song, 'Anos 70'.

You can find details on the entry, the artist, comments from the Aussievision team and the history of Portugal at Junior Eurovision can all be found below.

The artist: Nicolas Alves

Nicolas Alves is 13-years-old and moved to Portugal from the United Kingdom 3 years ago. He lives in Torres Vedras, a town near Lisbon.

Amongst his favourite artists are Queen and Elvis Presley. If Nicolas were invisible for a day they would go to the best concerts in the world without paying. Their favourite subject at school is history.

Portugal choose their artist through 'The Voice Kids Portugal' as they had done in previous years. Maria Gil won the contest but due to the differing age restrictions between the Junior Eurovision and The Voice Kids Portugal, she was ineligible to compete for Portugal. Instead, second placed Nicolas Alves was chosen to represent for Portugal.

The entry: 'Anos 70'

'Anos 70' was written and composed by Carolina Deslanders and Agir. The song will be sung in Portuguese.

Comments from the Aussievision team

Here is this surfer looking kid singing with this beautiful voice and then comes the gravelly part that absolutely comes from nowhere! What a voice! As the only song close to rock in this year's competition, it may do really well as this song stands out from the rest of the crowd. I am going to put a note in my diary 10 years from now to check on up this kid to see how his career is going as Nicolas is a little rock star in the making! ~ Tim

I think the best part of this song is it that it sounds really mature for junior Eurovision. There's a certain roughness at times to this song and Nicolas' vocals which is kind of the opposite of what we've come to hear from Junior Eurovision. It's just an good enjoyable song that is memorable. ~ Hayley

Portugal at Junior Eurovision

Portugal have competed six times at Junior Eurovision. They first entered in 2006 but withdrew after the 2007 Contest. They returned a decade later in 2017 and withdrew in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Their best result at Junior Eurovision came last year when Simão Oliveira competing with the song 'O Rapaz' finished a respectable 11th place.

Junior Eurovision 2022 will be held in Yerevan on December 11, 2022 (December 12, 2022 in Australia).
