Eurovision 2018 artist Jessica Mauboy has had a big week performing Like A Version for Triple J as well as being nominated for the 2025 National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs).

Like a Version

Like a Version is a weekly segment on the Australian radio station, Triple J, where musicians perform two songs live in the studio: one of their own and a cover of another artist's song.

Mauboy certainly didn't disappoint in her debut of Like a Version!

For the cover song performance Mauboy's sung World Turning by the infamous Australian musical group Yothu Yindi. She was joined by Australian rap artist BARKAA.

World Turning was first released in 1993 as the first single from Yothu Yindi's third studio album Freedom.

In a press release by the ABC on the performance of World Turning Mauboy said:

"It takes me back to being a child growing up in the Northern Territory.

"I can smell the place, I can see it. I can see myself running barefoot, climbing mango trees, and this song is the theme song in the background.

"I think at that young age I didn't quite know what the song meant but it felt really great. I think now that I'm older I know that it means something much bigger."

For Mauboy's original song performance she sung her early hit Running Back.

Running Back was Mauboy's debut single released back in 2008 and originally featured Flo Rida who had a recent stint at Eurovision! The US rapper Flo Rida featured in the performance of Adrenalina with Senhit representing San Marino at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam.

The song Running Back peaked at No. 3 on the ARIA singles chart and was the off her debut studio album Been Waiting.

2025 National Indigenous Music Awards nominations

Earlier in the week Mauboy was nominated in the 2025 National Indigenous Music Awards. The NIMAs are a prestigious set of awards recognising excellence, innovation, and leadership in Indigenous Australian music.

Mauboy was nominated in the NIMAs category Artist of the Year

Mauboy was nominated in the following categories: Artist of the Year, Film Clip of the Year for the song Won’t Stop where Mauboy features with 3%, and Song of the Year for the same song.

On top of the nominations it was revealed that Mauboy will also be performing at the awards alongside icons like Troy Cassar-Daley and Emma Donovan and new generation acts like Velvet Trip, Kobie Dee and BARKAA.

The NIMAs will take place on Larrikia Country on Saturday 9 August, at the Darwin Amphitheatre.
