Jael Wena, Australia's 2018 Junior Eurovision representative, has been announced as one of the contestants on this years's series of 'The Voice' commencing tomorrow night on Channel 7.

Fresh from appearing with her family in the inaugural season of 'The Voice Generations' in January, Jael, 16, will be going it alone this time. In good news for fans, Jael is named as one of twelve contestants to watch this season on the Perth Now website. Hopefully this can be taken as a sign that we should expect to see her progressing through to the later stages of the competition.

Jael reveals she will be blind auditioning with a Whitney Houston number:

“I’m singing a huge song by one of my idols. It’s a massive sing and pushes me to the top of my range. Not many can sing a Whitney … I just hope I can pull it off.”

Only a couple of months ago, Jael and her family made it all the way to the Grand Finale of 'The Voice Generations' with coach Guy Sebastian, Australia's inaugural Eurovision representative, but narrowly missed the crown. The performance was all the more remarkable as half of the Wena family were in COVID isolation and had to sing from their hotel room!

At just 12 years old, Jael finished third for Australia at Junior Eurovision 2018 with her song 'Champion', the equal highest finish for Australia after Isabella Clarke's 3rd place in 2017. You can check out Jael's performance in Belarus below:

Since her appearance at Junior Eurovision, Jael has gone on to make the semi-finals of 'Australia’s Got Talent' in 2019 and also sang the National Anthem at the 2021 A-League Soccer Grand Final. She has also been a presenter on children's television channel ABC ME and been busy releasing covers of songs from various artists on YouTube, including ‘Husavik’ from the Eurovision movie, 'Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga'.

The 2022 season of 'The Voice' will premiere on Channel 7 on Monday April 18. Along with coach Guy Sebastian, fellow Australian Eurovision alumni Jessica Mauboy, country superstar Keith Urban and British singer-songwriter Rita Ora will all be returning to the coach's chairs.

We look forward to seeing if this super talented singer can make it all the way to the Grand Finale!
