Aussies love to throw a party—and what better excuse than Eurovision Grand Final!

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Eurovision stan or dip your toe into the chaos only from time to time, hosting a Eurovision party is the perfect way to bring your mates together for a night (or morning!) of outrageous fun.

Here’s your guide to throwing a Eurovision bash that will have your guests yelling “douze points!” all night long.

Embrace the time zone madness

First things first – decide if your posse is diehard enough for the early morning Live Grand Final or if you’ll be catching it on replay.

SBS has you covered for both on SBS and SBS On Demand:

  • Live Grand Final – Sunday 18 May at 5:00am AEST

  • Access All Areas Grand Final Replay – Sunday 18 May at 7:30pm AEST.

Check out our article here for more detail on how and where to watch.

To amp up the fun, go for a social media and news blackout if you’re going to watch the replay.

Let them eat cake

Eurovision parties are famous for their themed nibbles! A great idea is to ask folk to bring a plate themed to their favourite country participating in Eurovision 2025.

Why not do a themed signature cocktail! In honour of our Milkshake Man, Go-Jo, why not give this Boozy Milkshake recipe a crack!

If you’ll have a lot of folk for your Eurovision do, an easy way to quench your posse’s post dance-break thirst is with a themed punch.

Are you going to have a morning party? Why not go fancy and serve up prosecco, mimosas, bellinis and European pastries. Check out this list of 100 awesome sweet pastries to try.

Evening replay? Try a themed, signature cocktail! If you’ll have a lot of folk over for your Eurovision do, an easy way to quench your posse’s post dance-break thirst is with a themed punch. A Spanish Sangria is a clever, efficient way to get people sipping and bopping along to Esa Diva with minimal effort.

Make your snack table an international affair:

  • Swedish meatballs

  • French macarons

  • Italian pizza slices

  • Greek dips and pita

  • Aussie lamingtons (because we belong at Eurovision, okay?)

Dress code: extra, please!

Eurovision isn’t just a music contest — it’s a fashion event. Think metallics, feathers, capes, neon, and glam.

Stage a “Best Dressed” contest with categories like:

  • Best Impersonation

  • Best Song Interpretation

  • Best Reveal.

Have a cheap trophy or tiara ready as a prize — or you can just award eternal bragging rights. Here’s a handy guide to make a Kate Miller-Heidke style crown.

Score like the pros

Make everyone part of the drama with a DIY Eurovision scorecard.

  • Hand out score sheets with categories like song quality, stage presence, costumes, ridiculousness, and potential to cause an international incident.

  • After each performance, let your guests award points — or remove points if they’re especially savage.

  • At the end, crown your own party winner (who may or may not match the official result — that’s half the fun).

If you're short on time, you can borrow these awesome Mission Eurovision scoresheets.

Eurovision drinking game

Nothing says “Eurovision night” like a well-crafted drinking game (responsibly, of course). Here’s a starter list to give a go:

Take a sip if:

✅ Someone uses a wind machine

✅ You hear a key change

✅ The hosts attempt “banter”

Take two sips if:

✅ A country gives 12 points to its neighbour

✅ There’s a costume change mid-performance

✅ A score giver starts with "[COUNTRY] calling"

✅ Australia gets called “Europe’s favourite distant cousin”

 Finish your drink if:

✅ You see someone waving an Aussie flag in the crowd.

Eurovision is gloriously unpredictable. A serious opera ballad can lose to a Ukrainian folk-rap group or a Finnish metal band in pink latex. The more you embrace the chaos, the better your party will be.

So grab your glitter, wave your flag, pour a drink, and get ready to scream at the TV with your mates — because no one throws a Eurovision party quite like the Aussies.
