Australia's energetic and bombastic 2025 entry Milkshake Man was inspired by Finland's Eurovision star Käärijä.
When Go-Jo was announced as Australia's Eurovision artist in February, it was something different for Australia.
Our Head of Delegation, Emily Griggs, acknowledged this change in direction.
“To mark 10 years of Australia participating in Eurovision, we wanted to do something that was out of the box," she said.
It was something she delved further into at the Australian Embassy event in Basel on Friday evening.
"When it came to planning how to celebrate 10 years on the Eurovision stage, we thought, we're going to have some fun," she told the crowd.
"We're going to go big, we're going to Go-Jo."
That same evening, Aussievision chatted to Milkshake Man co-writer George Sheppard, who revealed a little more about the inspiration.
Go-Jo was in the mix for Eurovision, and George was approached by their label Chugg Music (both Go-Jo and Sheppard are with the same label) to write some songs.
"The brief was 'we want a song that is super energetic, super fun', and they sent Cha Cha Cha by Käärijä."
"I watched that video and was like, this is ludicrous and hilarious and brilliant and amazing, let's try and at least keep to the tempo of this.
"It's 152,153 (beats per minute), so we set the metronome going."
According to songbpm.com Cha Cha Cha has a bpm of 155 and Milkshake Man is 154.
You can listen to the full chat with George and his role in the performance in Basel on the Aussievision podcast.
