Eurovision winning songs ranked by Spotify streams - REVISITED

Back in September we looked at how the Eurovision winning songs stack up against each other based on Spotify play counts. We pulled together a set of full rankings of play counts as of September 21 2020.

Nearly 60 days have gone by and we thought it would be interesting to revisit the play counts of the Eurovision winning songs on Spotify.

There have been a few songs that have jumped up in the rankings. But more significantly a recent Eurovision winning song is creeping up to take the top spot and possibly be crowned the most streamed Eurovision winning song on Spotify.

Out of the 67 Eurovision winning songs, 65 of them can be streamed on Spotify in Australia.

Only two Eurovision winning songs don’t appear on Spotify in Australia. They are the 2001 Eurovision winning song ‘Everybody’ by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL and the 2008 song ‘Believe’ by Dima Bilan.

When adding up the total play counts for each song we included all versions of the winning song bar from any remixes. The total play counts include radio edits, live, symphonic, acoustic and remastered versions.

Many Eurovision winning songs have jumped up one to two spots. 'Insieme: 1992’ by Toto Cutugno and 'Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley’ by Herreys making the double spot jump.

The most significant jump has comes from 'Hard Rock Hallelujah’ by Lordi which jumped up 15 spots and launched into the Top 10 with an increase of 30 million play counts that were previously undisclosed on Spotify.

The most exciting jump though came from ‘Arcade’ by Duncan Laurence which knocked off ’Heroes’ by Mäns Zelmerlöw to claim the No.2 spot with an increase of over 21 million play counts over the last 60 days.

The factors into the major increase of play counts from ‘Arcade’, include that he is the most recent Eurovision winner, hence getting a lot of rotation on playlists and he recently released his debut album, ‘Small Town Boy’, which reached No. 6 on the Dutch Album Top 100 chart and has been certified Platinum in the Netherlands with sales exceeding 40,000 units.

‘Arcade’ is currently streaming more than eight times the daily streams compared to ‘Euphoria’. Over the last 60 days ‘Arcade’ has had 365,584 daily streams whereas ‘Euphoria’ has had 44,017 daily streams. If the ‘Arcade’ play counts remain steady we would expect ‘Arcade’ to be the most streamed Eurovision winning song in the new year!

Given the popularity of ‘Arcade’ on Spotify, could ‘Arcade’ be the Eurovision song to dethrone ‘Euphoria’, and strip it of its No. 1 dominance on the ESC250?

Only time will tell.
