Eurovision winning songs ranked by Spotify streams

Out of the 67 Eurovision winning songs, 65 of them can be streamed on Spotify in Australia.
We thought we would have a look and see how the Eurovision winning songs stack up against each other based on Spotify play counts, so have pulled together full rankings.
Only two Eurovision winning songs don’t appear on Spotify in Australia. They are the 2001 Eurovision winning song ‘Everybody’ by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL and the 2008 song ‘Believe’ by Dima Bilan.
When adding up the total play counts for each song we included all versions of the winning song bar from any remixes. The total play counts include radio edits, live, symphonic, acoustic and remastered versions.

It comes at no surprise that ‘Euphoria’ is the most streamed song on Spotify, being regarded by most as the best Eurovision song ever having topped the ESC250 for the last eight years, since its debut. Impressively for Sweden, five out of their six Eurovision wins make the top 20 of our list, with three winning songs in the top 5!
As expected the more recent Eurovision winning songs have been played more, with seven Eurovision winning songs from the 2010’s making the top 10.
The oldest Eurovision winning song with the highest ranking is 'Poupée de cire, poupée de son’ from 1965 reaching the top 20 in 14th place, the second oldest is ‘Waterloo’ in 4th place with over 102 million play counts. It is only one of four songs with 100 million or more play counts, not surprisingly though due to ABBA’s global popularity after their contest win.
One of the surprises of the list is the the 2nd placed ‘Heroes’ by Måns Zelmerlöw from the 2015 Contest which has amassed over 120 million play counts. It is clearly a fan favourite, considering it came from a rather hotly contested Eurovision year with many in the fandom split over the winner for the 2015 Contest.
Out of the countries with multiple Eurovision winning songs, we thought it would be interesting to look at their best song ranked in this list - with countries with three or more victories, they are:
Ireland (7 victories) - 10th place - Johnny Logan - 'Hold Me Now' - 1987 - 18,349,763 play counts
Sweden (6 victories) - 1st place - Loreen - 'Euphoria' - 2012 - 151,899,474 play counts
France (5 victories) - 38th place - Marie Myriam - 'L'oiseau et l'enfant' - 1977 - 2,238,117
Luxembourg (5 victories) - 14th place France Gall - 'Poupée de cire, poupée de son' - 1965 - 15,709,621
United Kingdom (5 victories) - 19th place Bucks Fizz - 'Making Your Mind Up' - 1981 - 9,319,919
Israel (4 victories) - 5th place - Netta - 'Toy' - 2018 - Israel - 64,553,805
Netherlands (4 victories) - 3rd place - Duncan Laurence - 'Arcade' - 2019 - 116,152,129
Denmark (3 victories) - 7th place - Emmelie de Forest - 'Only Teardrops' - 2013 - 36,883,675
Norway (3 victories) - 8th place - Alexander Rybak - 'Fairytale' - 2009 - 32,584,549 play counts
And lastly how do the total play counts of the Eurovision 2020 songs compare with this list?
Well considering Eurovision 2020 didn’t go ahead two of the favourites from 2020 would have easily made it to the top 10 of this Spotify rankings had the Contest gone ahead and they won. They are Iceland’s Daði og Gagnamagnið with 'Think About Things’ at 49,294,595 play counts and Italy’s Diodato with 'Fai rumore’ at 30,192,815 play counts, both making the top 2 played Spotify songs of the Eurovision 2020 year.
