Eurovision on Tour in Brisbane a huge success

Last night, fans packed out the Tivoli in Brisbane to catch the first Australian show of Eurovision on Tour.

With many fans admitting some trepidation about the show leading up to the night, the overwhelming response on the night was incredibly positive.

Eurovision fan Greg Murphy shared this update in the Australian Eurovision fan Facebook group:

"Had an awesome night at Eurovision on Tour at the Tivoli in Brisbane. Fifteen artists/groups performed and all wowed the enthusiastic crowd. It was such a professionally produced show running for just over three hours.

For those attending in Melbourne and Sydney, you are in for a treat."

Hosts

The night was hosted by two of the artists: Soraya (Spain 2009) and Senhit (San Marino 2011, 2020 and 2021).

The duo were warm, funny and learnt a few Australianisms including the word "schnitty" and the chant "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi."

The night started with a version of a flag parade (no national flags included) with all artists announced to the crowd. There were huge cheers for each artist but special love was shown to Brisbane's own Dami Im and young Aussie artist Silia Kapsis.

• Ovi and Ilinca (Romania - Eurovision 2010, 2014, 2017)

• Silia Kapsis (Cyprus - Eurovision 2024)

• Senhit (San Marino - Eurovision 2011, 2020, 2021)

• Soraya (Spain 2009)

• Sunstroke Project (Moldova - Eurovision 2010, 2017)

• Suzy (Portugal - Eurovision 2014)

• The Roop (Lithuania - Eurovision 2020, 2021)

Only two artists previously advertised did not appear on the night: Carola (Sweden - Eurovision 1983, 1991, 2006) and Rosa López (Spain - Eurovision 2002).

The show

The night ran smoothly with very little break between artists with each act doing their Eurovision song/s and sometimes a cover of another. Artists were nearly always joined by backing dancers who did an incredible job.

Although each act brought something special, the crowd particularly went wild for Moldova's Sunstroke Project featuring Epic Sax Guy. While Destiny definitely won the crowd with her powerhouse vocals.

Eurovision fan and Aussievision contributor Troy Turner shared this update.

"I was not prepared for how good Sunstroke Project would be live at last night’s Eurovision on Tour in Brissie!

And Destiny! Wow. Silia Kapais is a star. Hands down."

Dami Im received a rapturous ongoing applause after her performance that went for several minutes.

While Suzy got the crowd involved with a conga line and The Roop sent the crowd into a frenzy towards the end of the show.

The night concluded with all artists on stage to perform another Eurovision song together. We won't ruin the surprise of what song it was, but it wasn't in English!

After and even during the show many artists mingled with fans (a couple by the bar and smoking room for good measure).

For many artists, it was their first time in Australia. On stage and in conversations after, they shared how coming Down Under was what they were looking forward to most as part of the tour.

Although they had been in the country just 24 hours, they shared how friendly the people were, how much they liked Brisbane but also noted the heat and humidity!
