Nemo takes out MTV European Music Awards Best Swiss Act and national finalists shine
Nemo’s star continues to rise, last night winning Best Swiss Act at the star-studded MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) following their stellar Eurovision Song Contest 2024 win earlier this year at Malmö.
The Eurostar and The Code singer was one of three Eurovision 2024 acts to receive a nomination, with fellow competitors Angelina Mango up for Best Italian Act and Slimane for Best French Act (who sadly were both unsuccessful).
Italian Eurovision royalty was on full display for the MTV EMAs, with Angelina and Mahmood joined by national final competitors Ghalid and The Kolors all vying for the award.
In a bit of coup, Aussievision's National Final Countdown winner and Sanremo chanteuse Annalisa took out Best Italian Act, beating compatriot Angelina Mango in a role reversal of their Sanremo face off.
Ana Mena, who performed at Sanremo 2022, sadly could not triumph over Lola Indigo for Best Spanish Act. Nor could Benidorm songstress Bárabara Tinocco win the battle of the Bárbaras, losing Best Portuguese Act to Bárabara Bandeira.
Unicorn singer Noa Kirel, who scored her country third place in 2023 took out Best Israeli Act.
Manchester was wall-to-wall celebrities and global music icons for the for the 30th Anniversary of the EMAs. Teddy Swims, Shawn Mendes, Raye, Neneh Cherry, Benson Boone, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J joined host Rita Ora and a slew of other artists to celebrate all things music at the city’s ritzy Co-Op Live.
Stars also paid tribute to One Direction singer, Liam Payne, whose recent tragic death in Argentina shocked the world.
Dizzy singer, Olly Alexander, of Years and Years and now solo fame attended along with Ireland’s favourite ESC entrants Jedward.
Sabrina Carpenter took out Best Song with her caffeine-craving hit Espresso, Taylor Swift won Best Artist (surprise), Ariana Grande won Best Pop Act (wicked) and Benson Boone (swoon) won Best New Act.
