We profile the 2026 entry from San Marino including details on the artists, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

San Marino is the smallest country currently competing at Eurovision, and also one of the newest. Since their debut in 2008 they have struggled to qualify for the Grand Final; a 19th place finish in 2019 with Serhat’s Say Na Na Na is currently the highest placement they have managed to achieve.

For much of their history at the contest San Marino have been known to send the same artist multiple times. Valentina Monetta has represented the country four times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017) and Turkish singer Serhat has flown the Sammarinese flag twice (2016, 2019).

Their current selection process has attracted some high-profile names and winners, such as Gabry Ponte’s Tutta l'Italia (2025, 26th place). This year is no different, as San Marino will be sending SENHIT freaturing Boy George with the song Superstar.

You can find out more about SENHIT and her song below!

About the Artists

Senhit Zadik Zadik was born and raised in Bologna, Italy, to Eritrean parents. While music has always been part of her life, it wasn’t until she started university that she considered it as a career.

She began her music career abroad in Germany and Switzerland, where she performed in musicals such as Fame, The Lion King and Hair

SENHIT is another name Eurovision fans will likely recognise as an artist that has been to the contest before. After returning to Italy in 2002 and focusing on releasing solo music, SENHIT represented San Marino at Eurovision 2011 in Düsseldorf with the song Stand By, which sadly did not qualify for the finals. Ten years later, she once again returned to represent San Marino in Amsterdam. This time she was joined on stage by American rapper Flo Rida, and together their song Adrenalina netted San Marino 22nd place in the Grand Final.

In 2024 SENHIT released her latest album Dangerous, which features her track with Flo Rida alongside collabs with Steve Aoki and Benny Benassi.

Boy George is another name you are likely to recognise, for very different reasons. English musician George Alan O'Dowd is best known as the lead singer of new wave band Culture Club. They had several hit singles in the 80’s including Do You Really Want to Hurt Me and Karma Chameleon

Since 1987 Boy George has released 11 studio albums as a solo artist, as well as ventured into several other areas of art such as DJ-ing, writing, fashion and photography.

Australian fans will likely know him as a coach on The Voice Australia between 2017 and 2020. 2019 winner Diana Rouvas, who went on to compete in Australia Decides 2019, was a member of Team George. He had several other team members in the finals, including Sheldon Riley, who would go on to represent Australia at Eurovision in 2022 and placed 15th.

About the song

San Marino’s 2026 Eurovision entry Superstar is an upbeat pop song with a distinct disco sound.

The lyrics speak of finding self-confidence in front of others who the listener might think of as intimidating or “too cool” to measure up to.

SENHIT and Boy George are both credited as songwriters, alongside Anderz Wrethov, John Emil Johansson, Jonathan Bellini, Julie Aagaard (as Kill J) and Thomas Stengaard.

Wrethov, Aagaard and Stengaard all have a long history of writing songs for Eurovision– all are credited on Kaleen’s We Will Rave (2024, 24th place).

Wrethov is also credited as composer and lyricist for KAJ’s Bara bada bastu (2025, 4th place) and Eleni Foureira’s Fuego (2018, 2nd place).

This year alone, Aagaard and Stengaard are credited on Look Mum No Computer’s Eins, Zwei, Drei and Eva Marija’s Mother Nature. Previously they have also worked together on Remember Monday’s What The Hell Just Happened? (2025, 19th place), and Stengaard was also a composer and lyricist on SENHIT's last Eurovision entry Adrenalina

How were SENHIT and Boy George chosen for Eurovision?

SENHIT and Boy George participated in the San Marino Song Contest 2026, held between 4-6 March. They were announced as one of eleven entries pre-qualified for the final. While Boy George was not present to perform live, Senhit kept the energy high with a plethora of backing dancers and fun choreography.

While the breakdown of the results has not been made public, a 5-member jury selected Superstar as the winner, meaning SENHIT and Boy George have secured themselves a spot on the Eurovision stage.

San Marino will compete in the First Semi Final of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest on 12 May in Vienna. Will they earn a spot in the Grand Final?

If anyone’s looking for a no-download option, Drive Mad free is worth checking out. It loads fast in the browser and doesn’t feel cluttered with unnecessary stuff, which I appreciate.
