We profile the 2026 entry from Denmark including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
Denmark made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957. They have competed 53 times and have lifted up the crystal microphone on three occasions, winning the contest with the following entries:
1963: Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann with Dansevise
2000: The Olsen Brothers with Fly on the Wings of Love
2013: Emmelie de Forest with Only Teardrops.
Since that third triumph in 2013, things have been slightly rocky for Denmark, with their best results being two 9th place finishes with Basim in 2014 (Cliche Love Song) and Rasmussen in 2018 (Higher Ground).
The 2020s haven't been too kind to them at all: they failed to qualify for the grand final for four years in a row. Sissal managed to break the drought at last year's contest in Basel with Hallucination, albeit finishing in 23rd place.
But this year, Denmark is set to continue their resurgance in a big way, with the hotly-hyped Søren Torpegaard Lund and his song Før vi går hjem. Find out more about Søren and his song below!

About the Artist
Søren was born in Gudme in Southern Demark, and immersed himself in musical theatre from a young age. He became the youngest-ever student admitted to the Danish National School of Performing Arts at 17.
After graduating, he starred in major local productions of Kinky Boots and Romeo & Juliet, and played the lead role of Tony in West Side Story at the Copenhagen Opera House in 2021 and 2022.
In 2023, he competed in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix for the first time with his tender ballad Lige her (Right Here), but it failed to reach the top three for the contest's Super Final. He went on to release an EP - Øjesten - in 2005, and this year, he came back to compete at DMGP for the second time, going all the way and triumphing with Før Vi Går Hjem.
Critical and fan reception to the song has been huge, and Søren is widely tipped to deliver Denmark its best result for years in Vienna.
About the song
Før Vi Går Hjem translates to 'Before We Go Home' in English, and it was written by Søren and three other co-writers - Valdemar Littauer Bendixen, Clara Sofie Fabricius and Thomas Meilstrup. Søren described the song to eurovision.tv as "like a piece of candy that is both sour and sweet. "There are no breaks in this song because it is one long movement. A night that never stops!"
He wanted Før Vi Går Hjem to be a song where he could "live out my inner club fantasy" and be dramatically different from his 2023 DMGP entry. Along with the clubbing theme, he wanted the song to be a "sad banger" and one which could "make people dance but also make people let go and surrendering to the night." Those themes were front and centre in Søren's captivating performance in Melodi Grand Prix, which featured him being seduced by a group of five dancers in a see-through plastic box.
Før Vi Går Hjem is also the first Danish entry since 2021 to be performed entirely in its native language, and it was also the only Danish language song in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix this year. In our interview with Søren, he told contributor Sam he had a firm view on singing in Danish and not translating his song for an English version.
"My manager was like: 'They're probably going to ask you to translate this, how would you feel about that?' I was like: 'They can definitely ask me, we can definitely try it out, but its not going to be translated. If I get the final say, it's going to stay in its authentic form.'
"I'm so proud we can take the native language with us, and seeing a lot of countries doing it inspired me to keep it that way. That's the beautiful thing about Eurovision, there's a lot of different languages represented."
How was Søren chosen for Eurovision?
Søren earnt his ticket to Eurovision 2026 as winner of Denmark's national selection contest Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in late February, held in the city of Frederikshaven. The winner was picked with a mix of votes from international juries and the public.
He competed alongside seven other entrants, and qualified as part of the top three for the Super Final alongside hot favourites Ericka Jane and Sissal.
Despite the other two finalists' popularity, Søren's eye-catching staging and entrancing house beat made for a compelling stage show and standout performance, and saw him win both the jury and public votes.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix - Superfinal Results:
Søren Torpegaard Lund - Før Vi Går Hjem - 39 points
Ericka Jane - Death of Me - 31 points
Sissal - Infinity - 30 points
Denmark will compete in Semi Final 2 of Eurovision 2026 on Thursday, 14 May in Vienna, Austria.
