Spain debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 and is a member of the 'Big 5'. Spain has won the Contest twice, in 1968 with Massiel's La La La, and again the following year with Salomé and Vivo Cantando in the infamous four-way tie in 1969.
Spain has finished runner up four times, and finished third twice. Since the turn of the century, Spain has made the top 10 on seven occasions, with Chanel delivering Spain its best result in the last ten years, finishing third with SloMo. Last year, fan favourite Zorra by Nebulossa placed 22nd in Malmö.

About the artist
Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez, known mononymously as Melody, is no stranger to the stage. Melody scored a Spanish number one at the age of 10 with El baile del gorila, the lead single off her debut studio album De pata negra. De pata negra was nominated at the Latin Grammy Awards and Latin Billboard Music Awards, and sold 600,000 copies worldwide. Since then, she has been in the industry on-and-off, releasing a further five studio albums and featuring in Spanish television and film.
Melody also competed for a spot in Eurovision before, collaborating with Los Vivancos in 2009 to represent Spain in Moscow. Their song Amante de la luna fared well in the selection show Eurovisión 2009: El retorno, winning the online vote to proceed directly to the televised semi-finals. Although Los Vivancos would withdraw before the Final, Melody would go on to place second in the Final (via a tiebreaker favoring the public vote) to eventual Spanish representative Soraya.
About the song
Esa diva ('That Diva') is performed in Spanish, and was written by Melody and Alberta Fuentes Lorite. The Benidorm Fest version was produced by Eurovision mainstays Joy Deb, Peter Boström, and Thomas G:son, with another revamped version produced by Eighty4, Rick Parkhouse, George Tizzard, and Guillem Vila Borras was released after its win.
Lyrically, Esa diva is an empowering song for women, referring to all women as divas regardless of their situation. She states divas don't tear each other down to shine, are stronger than hurricanes, and have complexity in their garden of life with both roses and thorns.
Musically, Esa diva utilizes Spanish motifs within an electronic dance song. The music builds up throughout the second verse leading into the middle eight, ending with a key change in the last chorus as Melody ramps up her vocals and dancing for a spectacular finish.
How Melody was selected for Eurovision
Melody competed in and won Benidorm Fest in 2025 to claim her spot in Basel. After coming in 2nd in her semi-final, she qualified to the Grand Final where she placed 3rd in the jury vote and 1st in the public vote, beating runner-up Daniela Blasco by 9 points.
Spain will compete in the Eurovision Grand Final on May 17 (European time) in Basel.
