We profile the 2025 entry from Portugal including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction, and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
Portugal has been a Eurovision mainstay since its debut in 1964, missing only five Contests over the years. However, despite the country's 53 appearances to date, Salvador Sobral is the only Portuguese entrant to lift the coveted crystal microphone trophy, sweeping all other competitors aside in 2017 with Amar pelos dois, written by his sister Luísa.
Since then, Portugal has missed the Grand Final just once in 2019. Iolanda's avant-garde ballad Grito finished in 10th in the Grand Final last year, and helped Portugal secure its fourth qualification in a row: their longest qualification streak since the semi-final was introduced to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004.
In 2025, Portugal will be represented by NAPA, who will be hoping to continue their country's qualification streak with the song Deslocado.
2025 Entry: NAPA - Deslocado

About the artist
NAPA's members are originally from Madeira, an autonomous region in Portugal located off of its west coast. The group currently includes five members: Guilherme Gomes, Lourenço Gomes, Francisco Sousa, Diogo Góis, and João Rodrigues.
Inspired by the Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Beatles, NAPA formed in 2013, originally as 'Men on the Couch'. The group released their first album Senso Comum in 2019, and their second album Logo Se Vê in 2023.
About the song
Deslocado, or 'Displaced' in English, is written from NAPA's perspective of being Madeirans living in mainland Portugal as 'displaced' citizens.
Lyrically, Deslocado's protagonist sings as they fly to and arrive on the Portuguese mainland and looks back at Madeira, longing to return to their island home since they feel they don't belong in the big city on the mainland. NAPA has also spoken about the lyrical content, connecting it with emigrants leaving Portugal to build their lives elsewhere.
We always wanted to portray that feeling of being displaced, of being an ocean away from home.
Musically, NAPA leans heavily on their inspiration from The Beatles' ballad work, creating a sound reminiscent of the group with its instrumentals and vocal harmonies. Fans of American folk music may also hear a resemblance to the genre, which also tends to deal with displacement and belonging to their hometowns.
Deslocado was written by NAPA and André Santos.
How NAPA was selected for Eurovision
Festival da Canção (FdC), a staple of the national final season, was again the format used to select Portugal's 2025 Eurovision representative. It was held over three weekends and consisted of two semi-finals and a (lengthy) final of 12 acts.
NAPA won the second semi-final, having been ranked 3rd by the jury but receiving the maximum douze points in the televote.
In the final, NAPA saw off strong competition from jury winner and fellow semi-final 2 qualifier Diana Vilarinho's Cotovia, which tied NAPA at 17 points each. However, the public voting took preference, which meant NAPA's 10 points with the public overtook Diana Vilarinho's 5 points.
Portugal will compete in semi-final 1 on May 13 (European time) in Basel.
