We profile the 2025 entry from Australia, including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction, and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

Australia made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.

They were invited as a special wildcard for the 60th anniversary Contest in Vienna.

However, Australia needed to be invited as they are only an Associate Member of the EBU rather than a full Member.

Their invitation came after broadcasting Eurovision every year since 1983 and a dedication to the Contest unmatched by any nation outside the EBU Membership.

Australia has made the top 10 on five out of their nine appearances, including runner-up in 2016 with Dami Im's Sound of Silence.

They have also not qualified for the Grand Final twice, first in 2021 when performing remotely due to COVID and last year when Electric Fields came 11th in their semi-final with One Milkali (One Blood).

This year Go-Jo with Milkshake Man will be hoping to take Australia back to the Grand Final.

About the Artist

Go-Jo is the solo project of Marty Zambotto. Marty grew up on rural town just out of Manjimup in the South West region of Western Australia (WA).

His home was a self-sustained property built with recycled materials by his French dad. It had no running water, no electricity or phone reception, but flourished with creativity.

A talented athlete, Marty played Aussie Rules in the WAFL (West Australian Football League) before focusing on music.

He had the viral hit Mrs. Hollywood and was the ninth most-streamed Aussie artist in 2023.

About the song

The song is co-written by Australian band Sheppard, who share the same music label as Go-Jo.

The band and their family also provide backing vocals for the song.

The song is a synth-pop anthem that blends cheeky lyrics with an empowering message of self-expression and confidence.

Go-Jo describes the track as a "motivational push" designed to encourage listeners to embrace their individuality and feel confident in themselves.

"The Milkshake Man’s purpose is to inspire people to embrace the loudest and proudest version of themselves,"

he told SBS when announced.

Although the message is of empowerment, some fans have suggested it has some double meanings that we'll let you make your own mind up on.

How was Go-Jo chosen for Eurovision?

On 26 February 2025 Australian broadcaster SBS announced Go-Jo as their representative for Eurovision 2025.

He was chosen via internal selection, the third year in a row Australia has chosen this method.

Australia's Head of Delegation, Emily Griggs from SBS, explained why they chose him.

"To mark 10 years of Australia participating in Eurovision, we wanted to do something that was out of the box," she said.

"His vibrant energy, undeniable passion, and collaboration with Sheppard make this entry truly special. Watching Go-Jo live was unforgettable, and the crowd were so involved. Europe won’t be able to resist falling for him.”

Australia will compete in semi-final 2 of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 15 May 2025 in Basel.
