Electric Fields have shown their support for SBS to revive its 'Australia Decides' national selection contest to find Australia's future Eurovision acts.
As reported by Rolling Stone Australia, the duo praised the competition and thought it should return while speaking to media after semi-final 1 of Eurovision 2024 on Tuesday night (Wednesday AEST).
Electric Fields appeared in the first edition of Australia Decides in 2019, where they were runners-up to winner Kate Miller-Heidke.
SBS has not held Australia Decides since 2022, instead opting for internal selections of past stars from the show to represent Australia at Eurovision, including Voyager last year and Electric Fields this year.
Keyboardist Michael Ross described Australia Decides as "very cool" and "like a mini Eurovision".
“I don’t know why it went away, but that was a wonderful experience and it offered an opportunity for a lot of up and coming artists to get a platform," he said.
Vocalist Zaachariah Fielding added that Australia Decides helped Electric Fields build many relationships with fellow artists and industry figures.
Sadly, the duo failed to qualify from semi-final 1 despite giving it all with their performance of their song 'One Milkali (One Blood)'.
It’s only the second time Australia has failed to qualify for the Eurovision Grand Final since joining the contest in 2015.
But there will be another Aussie to cheer on in the Grand Final after Sydney's Sillia Kapsis, representing Cyprus, qualified with her song 'Liar'. Sillia will perform in the 2nd half of the Grand Final.
The 2024 Eurovision song contest continues with semi-final 2 on Thursday night (Friday morning AEDT).
