Divina de Campo makes Australia proud in the Isolation Song Contest

It was all crocodiles, dingoes, sheilas and the Gold Coast with Divina de Campo's performance who had the honour of representing Australia in a very tongue-in-cheek act for the inaugural Isolation Song Contest.

Her self penned song ‘Half A World Away’ is very camp and you’re warned it is catchy, even incorporating some operatic moments.

For those not familiar Divina de Campo is from the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and one third of Frock Destroyers.

De Campo joined the likes of Eurovision 2015 winner Mans Zelmerlow who represented the United Kingdom as Benedict Bartholomew with the song ‘Swings and Roundabouts’. His performance featuring his son holding the British flag was one of the more polished ones yet still cheeky, with lyrics like “We are heroes of our time. The UK is next in line. Cos Covid makes Europe forget the B word was ever said.”

‘Bake Off’ host Mel Giedroyc aka Melania was also one of the acts. She represented Italy with ‘Non Vedo L’Ora’ in a dramatic performance where she sings longing for her cleaner, her cleaning woman.

The Contest is the brain child of comedian and Eurofan Tom Taylor. He asked entertainers to volunteer their time to recreate the Eurovision Song Contest from their homes.

In total 14 performers took part having been randomly given a country to represent. All the acts had one week to write a Eurovision style song to perform in a music video which captures the spirit of the country they represented.

You also get to vote! You need to use the hashtag of your favourite performance and enter it in the comment section when you make a donation for charity.

Money raised supports three charities, they include The Trussell Trust (who run food banks to stop UK hunger), Crisis (UK charity for homeless people) and Refuge (provider of domestic and gender-based violence services).

If you can, make a donation here and don’t forget to vote for your favourite performance.

You can check out the full Contest with all the acts in the video below:

Voting closes on May 22 with the winner to be announced visit the Isolation Song Contest for more details.
