Danny Saucedo and Arvingarna go direct to final in semi-final 1 of Sweden’s Melodifestivalen

This morning saw semi-final 1 of Sweden’s Eurovision national selection show ‘Melodifestivalen’ take place in Stockholm.

Seven acts competed but only four could remain in the competition by the night’s conclusion. Danny Saucedo and Arvingarna finished in the top two positions and move directly through to the Grand Final. Paul Rey and Lillasyster earnt the right to compete again in the second chance round known as Andra Chansen on 6 March.

In somewhat of a surprise, veteran Jessica Andersson was knocked out of the competition. Making her eighth Melodifestivalen appearance, Jessica represented Sweden at Eurovision in 2003 as part of the duo ‘Fame’ finishing fifth.

Also leaving the competition are 19 year old Melodifestivalen debutant and Idol 2018 runner-up Kadiatou and Nathalie Brydolf, 25, another former 2018 Idol contestant making her first Melodifestivalen appearance.

Official results will be released at the conclusion of all six weeks of competition.
