Overnight, Bulgarian broadcaster BNT announced that Bulgaria will be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a three-year absence.
Bulgaria officially confirmed its participation in the 70th edition of the Contest, which will take place in Vienna, Austria, in May 2026, with the official Eurovision Instagram account welcoming the nation back to the contest.
The announcement comes one day after neighbouring country Romania announced its return to the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.
"Eurovision is a stage where cultures meet and stories are shared. BNT supports talented artists and we are happy that we were able to once again provide an opportunity for a Bulgarian artist to represent our country in front of an audience of millions."
Eurovision Director Martin Green said:
"We are very excited to welcome BNT back to the Eurovision family after a three-year hiatus. Its return is further proof that we remain united by music, as well as the immense popularity of the contest."
Bulgaria last competed at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022 in Turin, where Intelligent Music Project came 16th in the semi-final out of 17 songs with 29 points. The nation then withdrew from the contest, citing financial reasons.
Bulgaria has given Eurovision fans many memorable moments over the years, including a 2nd-place finish in 2017 with Kristian Kostov's song Beautiful Mess.
Details regarding the process for selecting the artist and song that will represent Bulgaria at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will be revealed at a later date.
