Australia Decides 2022: Getting to know Andrew Lambrou
Andrew Lambrou has been announced as one of the second set of artists revealed for ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides 2022’.
He is a social media sensation, with a huge online following!
But it has been a steady climb for Andrew to garner followers. He started off with releasing covers on YouTube eight years ago before officially being signed to a record company and releasing original music just this year.
He is a dedicated and hard working artist with great soulful vocals, who is set to deliver a euro pop entry on the Australia Decides stage. But who is this fresh and new up-and-coming artist?
Let’s take a dive and get to know Andrew Lambrou!
Who is Andrew Lambrou?
Andrew Lambrou is a 23-year-old singer songwriter from Sydney. He is Australian with a Greek Cypriot family background.
Across all his social media platforms, at the time of writing this article, he has a combined 1.5 million followers. His most popular platform is on TikTok, where he has over 678 thousand followers and amassed a staggering 6.4 million likes from his videos.
He has also racked up hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify, from his three single releases, this year alone.
A young talent!
At just five-years-old he learned to play piano at AMS music school. He continually entered vocal competitions where his passion for singing blossomed. When he was five-years-old he won the AMS vocal Eisteddfod singing ‘Doh A Deer’. He went on to take music lessons at the LaVoce school of singing being assisted by his vocal coach Marc Villagra.
His parents would go on to help him share videos onto his social media. He would upload new videos weekly until he suddenly accumulated over 2000 followers in one night. A 15 second Instagram post where he covered Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’ ended up being shared on a music site in Spain. This inspired the young singer to continue sharing his covers and realise his potential to reach people with his music.
At 17-years-old he auditioned for ‘X Factor Australia’ in 2015 where he sung a cover of Nick Jonas’ ‘Chains’. The judging panel included Danni Minogue, James Blunt, Chris Isaac and Australia’s first Eurovision representative Guy Sebastian.
Andrew smashed his audition becoming one of the 20 successful acts making it into the “Boys” category. The next stage were the super home visits where Andrew got to fly to London with Chris Issak as his mentor. He got the opportunity to sing one song to Chris and the guest mentors Simon Cowell and Rita Ora. Unfortunately Andrew was eliminated during this round.
He grew to fame through consistent posting of pop song covers on YouTube, covering songs like ‘Havana’ by Camila Cabello to ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ by Zayn featuring Sia, the latter which has accumulated over 2.3 million views!
Andrew has a wide range of musical influences from The Weeknd and Michael Jackson, which you can definitely hear in his original music, to Charlie Puth and Bruno Mars. He also admires musicians who write musical scores for films like Ludwig Goransson and Hans Zimmer.
After years of posting his viral covers, Andrew transitioned to writing music of his own. At just 17-years-old, Sony ATV publishing had their eye on him, he ended up signing with Maree Hamblion. This allowed Andrew to develop his own musical song and collaborate with other artists and songwriters. He even ended up in Los Angeles writing music for three months.
The young artist reached a milestone in his career when he signed with Sydney-based label City Pop Records, who drive his original music into the global music market.
“I signed with City Pop Records, feeling excited about the team around me, I’m ready to release my music to the world. Since I can remember this is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and to be on this journey making that a reality is more than I could ever ask for. My parents have been such an important role in this. Without their support I wouldn’t be where I am today, I just can’t wait for the very near future with my new musical family.”

Australia's newest pop artist
Andrew first released his debut single ‘Throne’ back in March 31 this year. He co-wrote the song along with Joseph de la Hoyde, Nicholas de la Hoyde and Timothy de la Hoyde. ‘Throne’ was described by Australia music site auspop as “a dark, brooding and decidedly sexy piece, with pulsing bassline and powerful vocals.”
In an interview with the auspop site Andrew shared what his debut single was about:
“My debut release ‘Throne’ is about believing in yourself and foreseeing yourself at the top before you’ve even reached it. I’ve always believed in law of attraction and really knowing your abilities because anything is possible. It’s been an amazing experience releasing this as my first single and getting such a fantastic response. Nothing motivates me more!”
Since March Andrew has released two more original singles.
‘Lemonade’ was released on July 2 and was co-written by Andrew along with Ned Houston and Cyrus Villanueva, who won the seventh season of ‘The X Factor Australia’ back in 2015.
On September 24 Andrew released ‘Confidence’ co-written by Andrew and the same songwriting team behind ‘Thorn’.
In an interesting Eurovision connection, all three of his singles have been produced by Dave Hammer. Dave co-wrote and produced Montaigne’s Eurovision 2021 song ‘Technicolour’. He also has worked with Australia Decides artist Jaguar Jonze as recently as this year working on her ‘ANTIHERO’ EP.
We cannot wait to see what Andrew has to offer at Australia Decides. From Instagram and YouTube to becoming a professional singer, and now entertainer, where he is going to deliver us a euro pop entry with a shot at representing Australia on the big stage of Eurovision.
