SBS has confirmed Australia will compete at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna.

The announcement was provided to TV Tonight at SBS's Upfront event.

They confirmed the news in a post to X:

"Yes Australia will compete at Eurovision in Vienna."

The event sees the broadcaster announce programs for the upcoming year to prospective advertisers and media.

SBS posted a video shortly after, confirming the news and that Courtney Act and Tony Armstrong will be commentators again.

No details on how the artist will be selected has been shared.

If Australia Decides were to make a return, the Upfronts event would be where it would be announced.

It can be assumed it won't be making a return in 2026.

Australia at Eurovision

Australia has been part of the Contest since 2015, when Guy Sebastian made a guest debut in Vienna and finished 5th. What was meant to be a one-off invitation has since turned into a decade-long run.

Over that time, we’ve delivered some memorable results, including Dami Im’s iconic 2nd place in Stockholm 2016, Kate Miller-Heidke’s epic staging in Tel Aviv 2019, and Voyager rocking their way to a Top 10 in Liverpool 2023.

However, we have not qualified for the Grand Final for the past two years, just missing out in 11th place both times.

2026 will mark a special full-circle moment, with Australia returning to the city where it all began: Vienna.

Will we be able to turn things around?
