After seeing both semi-finals plus the big 5 performances, 15 members of the Aussievision team have made predictions on their Top 3 for the Eurovision 2025 Grand Final and a further prediction on the results.
We've gone to the team in a random order:
Jamie
Top 3 prediction
1st - Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
2nd - Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
3rd - Austria: JJ - Wasted Love
Comments:
Until recently I had been on the Austria train with JJ, however after the semi-final performances, running order and based on current odds and feedback in general, I feel that the Eurovision trophy is heading back to Sweden with Stockholm to be the host city in 2026.
It would not surprise me to see Erika Vikman from Finland win, as just like her UMK National Final performance, she totally owned the stage and her vocals were awesome. For me, she was the clear stand out performer from the 2nd semi-final. Either way, it will be someone from Finland that wins.
JJ from Austria, who I thought would clearly win the jury vote, has some competition now from Switzerland, France and if Sweden poll in top 4 or 5 in the Jury vote, JJ won't receive enough from the televote to win. I could be proven wrong though by getting off the wrong train.
Further predictions:
A few predictions, I can see Albania finishing Top 5 and they have a great position in the running order finishing off the show.
I think Luxembourg can finish Top 10. I have really liked this song since their national final and Laura Thorn's performance in semi-final 2 was one of the better ones.
I can also see San Marino finishing higher than Italy in the overall standings, as I am not a fan of Italy's entry this year.
Hayley
Top 3 prediction:
1st – Switzerland: Zoë Më – Voyage
2nd – Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
3rd – Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
Comments:
I just think the staging will pop. Sorry France - but Switzerland has done this better.
Further predictions:
UK to come last. Albania top 5. Luxembourg top 10 (yes i actually said that).
Tim
Top 3 prediction
1st – Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
2nd – Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
3rd – France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
Sweden: Yeah I can definitely see this winning the contest now. Not because it’s necessarily the best song but rather I think there is a flaw in the 4 odd other countries. Sweden, I believe has enough appeal to the juries, with its polished staging and great performances and to the public, for its sheer catchiness and ear worm energy, to gather 2nd with both and therefore win both. I don’t know if it will be the best winner we have ever had but it’s probably well deserved.
Finland: I think this has the potential to really pop and to gain attention in the running order. I thought the performance really popped on Thursday and it has such a great stage show. It was really clear down the lense that this has gone big in the hall and that can only be a good result for Erika. She is the star of the show and will perform this with more energy than Væb after 16 red bulls each.
France: I think this has an almighty potential to be the jury winner. She performed the song immaculately this morning and I think the visual effect of the sand/cork coming down looks stunning. It just looks beautiful. I think this should also get a decent televote with the visuals looking great as the story is told.
Further prediction:
I think Germany has a great chance of coming top 10. This will be a fantastic result for them and I think they deserve the accolades it’s due. Unfortunately, I see either Spain, UK or Italy coming last. It’s not that they have bad songs, it’s more that the weak entries have been cleared away now. Sweden to win by 73 points, Finland to beat France by 42.
Dale
Top 3 prediction:
1st – Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
2nd – Austria: JJ - Wasted Love
3rd – France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
After all the analysis, I've come back to the original three favourites. Although some fans feel Sweden doesn't have the same hype, for the new casual fan on Saturday night it will pop. It is slick enough to get the necessary jury points to booster its very high public vote to sneak to victory.
Switzerland's rise means there is more for the jury to look at with Austria and France, but both will score very high and have something that viewers at home will love enough to get them into the top three. I think it could be very tight and any of these can win.
Further prediction:
Switzerland and Estonia to round out the top 5, one getting a high jury score and one getting a high public vote (you can work out which one!). Lithuania will do well in the juries to be sniffing around the top 10 while the talk of the season, Miriana Conte, will be comfortably on the right-hand side of the scoreboard.
Laura
Top 3 prediction:
1. France: Louane - Maman
2. Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3. Estonia: Tommy Cash - Espresso Macchiato
Comments:
Louane will win over juries with her emotional performance which is simple but effective, with creative staging and strong, powerful vocals. At 24th out of 26 songs in the running order, this song will not only win the jury vote, but also create a lasting impact with the viewers watching at home with a top-5 televote score to get it over the line and claim the gold medal.
Sweden's KAJ, with Bara Bada Bastu, will come 2nd in the televote behind Estonia's Tommy Cash, but their stronger jury score will see them to the runner-up position.
Tommy Cash, despite winning the televote, will gain limited jury support and finish in third place, giving Estonia their best result since their host entry in 2002, Sahlene's Runaway.
Further prediction:
Surprise top 10: Greece will come top 10 due to strong jury support as a result of a powerful vocal performance. This result will be aided by all of the ex-Yugoslavia countries being eliminated from the competition before the final, giving Klavdia a strong televote within the region.
Who might surprise: Latvia's performance has been gaining momentum among fans, and with their striking on-stage visuals, a performance rich with layers of storytelling, controlled vocal harmonies, and years of performing experience together, Tautumeitas should deliver Latvia a left-hand-side result and the group may even make the top 10.
Last place: With strong televoting contenders in the Nordic region in Finland, Iceland and Sweden, as well as heavier-hitting jury contenders in Denmark, Finland and Sweden, Norway will end up as a last-place casualty once again. Other bottom-feeders: San Marino, Spain and the UK will all come bottom 5.
Troy
Top 3 prediction:
1. Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
2. Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3. Poland: Justyna Steczkowska - Gaja
Comments:
Erika has a credible path to victory. Her performance in her Semi was more polished and more restrained, making it more accessible. It’s all about her in her staging and she’s the most memorable thing about her whole performance.
Everyone’s favourite Sweden will undoubtedly attract a lot of points, but ESC is known for its upsets and, as the semis show, no formula or subversion of formula guarantees a good outcome.
Justyna is an icon and undeniable.
Further predictions:
Germany will perform well. They’ve offered the only radio friendly, commercial song of the competition. Luxembourg’s staging has elevated them from a potential NQ to a top 10.
Liv
Top 3 prediction:
1. Austria: JJ - Wasted Love
2. Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3. France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
I have been firmly off the Austria bandwagon all season but after his Semi final performance I have to concede - I think JJ is winning Eurovision 2025. The jury winner is likely to dictate the result similar to 2023 and 2024 and after his incredible jury show performance I see his victory path.
I think Sweden will win the televote, the juries will be kind enough to land them in second. As delightful as the lads are I don't see them stomping the televote as hard as we first anticipated.
France I believe will be third with the juries behind Switzerland, but will have a much stronger televote and cinch third place.
Further prediction:
I think Lithuania are going to get both a solid televote and jury score and land in the Top 10 in the 8th to 10th range. They are easily the best band of the year and have brought one of the stronger staging concepts. Lithuanian diaspora will also help pump up the points.
I believe last place will be Spain - love you diva but where are the points coming from?
Fleur
Top 3 prediction:
1st – Switzerland: Zoë Më – Voyage
2nd - Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
3rd – France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
Like last year, I think our winner will come from the jury votes. I can see it being a battle between France and Switzerland- both have favourable spots in the running order. There are quite a few countries battling it out in the televotes, which leads me to think that you really need a decent jury result to win. I think between Switzerland and France, Switzerland connects with the public a little better than what France does.
Finland will do reasonably well in both categories but it might not be enough. Erika Vikman is the most professional out of all the contestants and will be one to watch out for in the top 3.
Further prediction:
Wilkommen Germany back to the top 10. Stefan Raab has waved his magic wand for another top 10 result.
Sam
Top 3 prediction:
1st: Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
2nd: Austria: JJ - Wasted Love
3rd: Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
Comments:
My prediction remains the same as what I have said since all the songs were chosen. I believe Austria will win the juries and Sweden will win the tele-vote, with the latter triumphing overall. Sweden, Finland, Israel and Estonia will compete for tele-vote winner.
Whilst in this era of 100% semi-final tele-voting I would normally say the jury winner in the Grand Final is the overall winner, I believe Austria will face stiff competition from France and Switzerland with the juries. Enough to lower JJ’s jury score compared to Nemo’s last year.
Although Sweden could be considered a “joke” or “fun” entry I believe it will be more favourable with the juries than other entries of a similar genre because it is not too risqué or controversial. Melodifestivalen has proven that Bara Bada Bastu does have jury appeal, and I believe it will score well enough with the juries to overtake Austria once the tele-votes are added.
I believe Finland has a lot of momentum since the semi-final after delivering a stellar live performance and entertaining us by eating fondue. I therefore expect a strong tele-vote and I think juries will appreciate it to a certain extent. Whilst personally I am rooting for Sweden as I prefer it musically, as someone of Cantonese and Taiwanese ancestry on the team I feel it is worth noting the significance of a potential Austrian win. JJ would be the first person of Asian ancestry to win the contest. This would be a historic achievement 61 years after Indo-Dutch Anneke Grönloh became the first person of Asian ancestry to perform on the Eurovision stage. A potential JJ win would be a great inspiration to many people of my background who follow the contest.
Further prediction:
United Kingdom to finish last
Germany to retain Stefan Raab’s streak of every German entry he is involved with finishing in the Top 10
Ukraine to finish in the Top 10
Portugal to finish Top 10 with the juries
Italy finishing in their worst position since their 2011 comeback
Emma
Top 3 prediction:
1st - Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
2nd - Austria: JJ - Wasted Love
3rd - Switzerland: Zoë Më – Voyage
Comments:
Sweden are going to storm the televote with a very favourable position in the running order. Whilst I don't think they'll win the jury vote, they'll score enough points to get them over the line.
Austria will win the jury vote but their televote score will cost them the win. Wasted Love doesn't have the immediate appeal on first listen that Sweden has and could polarise the once a year viewers.
It's a battle between Switzerland and France for the female ballad vote. Will viewers and jurors prefer the simple staging and subtlety of Switzerland over the raw emotion and swirling cork of France? They may cancel each other out somewhat.
Further prediction:
Finland to finish Top 5 but won't win - the fans rightly love it but it won't appeal to the casual family audience.
Malta to finish on the right hand side of the scoreboard.
Germany to finish Top 5.
Joel
Top 3 prediction:
1st - Switzerland: Zoë Më – Voyage
2nd - Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3rd - Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
Comments:
I’m doubling down on my pre-rehearsal prediction that Switzerland will win Eurovision 2025. It completely satiates me in every way - the delicate and fragile vocals, the breathtaking cinematography, and the pure drama of her performance are all things missing from most other acts this year, which is sure to make this stand out with the public and juries alike. I’m putting this down to take out the jury win and a top 5 public vote to finish in top spot overall.
If anyone is going to beat Switzerland, it can only be Sweden or Finland. I would love to see Sweden win again and KAJ can absolutely do it with Bara Bada Bastu. The staging has been elevated just enough from Melfest to guarantee this top spot in the public vote, and juries aren’t going to shy away from sharing their love for this favourite.
Finland on the other hand has the most impressive package on offer this year, and the most impactful performance too. Strong enough jury and public support will see this one round out the top 3. Looking back in years to come, Erika Vikman will be recognised as the stand-out star from Eurovision 2025.
Further prediction:
Will do better than expected: Armenia’s Parg is flying into the top 10 with Survivor
Will do worse than expected: Austria’s JJ won’t get as much jury love as expected and the public vote for Wasted Love will fall away, resulting in a low top 10 finish
UK will finish in last place: nobody’s picking up the phone to vote for 7 songs jammed into 1 no matter how well they sing it.
Craig
Top 3 prediction:
1st - Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
2nd - Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3rd - France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
All season, I have had in my head that Ich komme is a song that comes 4th to 8th - "Erika Vikman comes back to Eurovision and wins the whole thing" sounds too much like fanfiction to be a real result. And yet... and yet... it looks like a winner, doesn't it? The raunchy aspects of the song pale into insignificance compared to Erika's sheer star power onstage, there are moments that will stick in a televoter's mind, and there is enough here for juries to grab onto and vote for in a way that I don't think any of the other big televote contenders have this year. Erika's stats look good, she'd have the crowd behind her, and... I think she can do it!
Sweden also looks good to get points from both the juries and the televote, so I've put them into second, while I think third will be one of the jury favourites which has enough oomph to get televoters onboard - I've gone for France because it's my favourite, but Austria could also easily fill this slot in my mind. Overall, this is the hardest contest to predict in years - but I'm so excited to find out where we're going next year!
Further prediction:
The UK to finish last - I see no reason for any self-respecting juror or televoter to vote for this.
Kiel
Top 3 prediction:
1st - Netherlands: Claude - C'est la vie
2nd - Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3rd - France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
All the action in this grand final will come down to spots 12+13 (Netherlands then Finland) and 22+23 (Sweden then France). Whoever shines the most here and gives the performance of their lives will take out Eurovision 2025, especially if the act before or after them fails to fire. KAJ are superb and will win the public vote easily. But something tells me they will follow in the footsteps of Baby Lasagna and Käärijä and fall just short.
I still think Claude has a chance to pull off the ultimate comeback for the Netherlands after last year's drama. Thow that in with maybe a bit of resentment from both sides about going to Sweden for the second time in three years, and the Netherlands might just sneak home.
Alternatively, France or Switzerland have the ability to woo the jury and maybe viewers at home to trump them both. And Erika Vikman might just jump on her pyro-charged microphone and shoot past them all for a huge sentimental win for Finland. It's going to be quite a contest!
Further prediction:
Public vote winner: Sweden
Jury vote winner: France or Switzerland
Surprise top 10: Italy, and potentially Lithuania if Europe is in a gloomy/alt rock mood.
Surprise flop: Ukraine and/or Albania
Last: Denmark
And finally, The UK to again get a single-digit score from the public (less than 10).
Cooper
Top 3 prediction:
1st - Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
2nd - Sweden: KAJ - Bara bada bastu
3rd - Austria: JJ - Wasted Love
Comments:
I can see a path to victory for all three acts. With such an open year it’s going to be very chaotic and hard to predict (as we saw in the semi qualifiers) but I think Erika is going to manage to come very high in both jury and televote to sneak into that first spot.
Further prediction:
UK will be getting yet another nil points unfortunately.
John Christian
Top 3 prediction:
1st - Finland: Erika Vikman - Ich komme
2nd - Switzerland: Zoë Më – Voyage
3rd - France: Louane - Maman
Comments:
I chose these as my Top 3 because there has been a few instances where the winner was neither the jury's favourite nor the televote's favourite, so I picked Finland as some sort of a compromise winner.
Further predictions:
United Kingdom will finish on the left side of the scoreboard, Latvia making some surge and surprisingly finish within the top 10, Armenia, Greece, and Norway would fight for last place, Albania will finish way below than expected, Armenia and Greece giving few jury points because of frustration by the public over the non-qualification of heavy favourite Australia, Malta not giving any 12 points from anyone except her voting allies, Spain finishing in mid-table.
