Over a month has passed since the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Now that the dust has settled we thought it was time our team reassessed the Contest and hand out some grades.
10 members of the Aussievision team rated every Eurovision 2026 country out of 10 based on expectations and results compared to previous years.
The scores have been averaged to create our Eurovision 2026 Report Card.
Our grading of the entries are as followed:
10 to 8.5 score: Grade A / High Distinction (HD)
8.4 to 7 score: Grade B / Distinction (D)
6.9 to 5 score: Grade C / Credit (C)
4.9 score or less: Needs Improvement
We list all our grades below with commentary and team feedback on some of the entries.
Grade A / High Distinction (HD)
1. Bulgaria (Eurovision 2026 winner) – 9.9 score
After a hiatus Bulgaria returned to the Contest with a BANG!
They delivered on every level. A strong song, memorable staging and a dynamic artist that owned the whole performance. This was Eurovision in 2026 done right!
The team voted Bulgaria as the entry that exceeded expectations the most giving it an almost perfect score.
Some comments from the team:
"Punchy staging got this through to the final, a marked improvement on some of their more recent entries." ~ Fleur
"Bulgaria returned with the complete package. Dara was the dark horse during the season. The Bangaranga staging was slick and effective for the high impact catchy song it is." ~ Kyriakos
2. Australia (4th place in Grand Final) – 9.2 score
After two years of not qualifying Delta Goodrem stormed Australia back into the Grand Final`.
Delta gave a huge performance with powerful vocals to match.
Eclipse returned Australia into the Top 5, last achieved in 2016 and with the 4th place finish being Australia's second best result ever.
Ranked No. 2 by the team goes to show us Aussies had high expectation for Australia and we exceeded them!
Some comments from the team:
"Great to see Australia reverse the fortunes of the last couple of years. Choosing a very established name was a step in the right direction for us. Delta has done wonders for the promotion of the competition in this country and hopefully this encourages more big names to represent us. It was great to see how well she engaged with the fan press and competed at all of the pre-parties as well." ~ Emma
"The only thing stopping this from a 10 was if we actually won it. Delta did everything she could, and delivered our best result in a decade and officially got Australia back where we belong at Eurovision. Hard not to feel like this wasn't mission accomplished on so many fronts." ~ Kiel
3. Romania (3rd place in Grand Final) – 9.1 score
Just like Bulgaria, Romania also returned from a hiatus ready to impress. And impress they did. Alexandra Căpitănescu gave a stand out performance with slick and memorable staging with a super catchy song.
The Aussievision team placed Romania as a country that exceed expectations.
Choke Me finished in third place, Romania's best placed entry ever along with 2010 and 2005.
Grade B / Distinction (D)
4. Moldova (8th place in Grand Final) – 8.3 score
Satoshi's Viva, Moldova! finished 8th overall and earned an impressive 4th place with the televote, the entry exceeded the expectations many had for Moldova heading into the Contest.
The song's infectious energy, memorable staging and strong audience appeal resonated with viewers, helping it secure one of Moldova's best results in recent years.
5. Denmark (7th place in Grand Final) – 8 score
Denmark comfortably exceeded expectations despite drawing the challenging task of opening the Eurovision 2026 Grand Final.
Finishing in 7th place overall, Søren Torpegaard Lund delivered the highest-placing opening performance since 2014, defying the long-held belief that performing first is a major disadvantage.
The result also marked Denmark's best Eurovision placing since their victory in 2013 and only their third Top 10 finish in the years since.
Some comments from the team:
"Keep this up Denmark. Joint second in the juries. Be proud Søren. I'm already looking forward to seeing DMGP next year. Denmark, please don't disappoint me." ~ Fleur
6. Finland (6th place in Grand Final) – 7.8 score
Finland entered Eurovision 2026 with enormous expectations, arriving as both the fan favourite and the bookmakers' choice to win the Contest.
However, despite the pre-contest hype, the country ultimately fell short of those lofty predictions, finishing in 6th place.
While a Top 10 result would normally be considered a strong outcome, it was viewed as a robbery given the widespread belief that Finland was a genuine contender for victory.
7. Italy (5th place in Grand Final) – 7.4 score
8. Greece (10th place in Grand Final) – 7.3 score
9. Poland (12th place in Grand Final) – 7 score
10. Croatia (15th place in Grand Final) – 7 score
Grade C / Credit (C)
11. Ukraine (9th place in Grand Final) – 6.9 score
12. Albania (13th place in Grand Final) – 6.6 score
13. Serbia (17th place in Grand Final) – 6.3 score
14. Israel (2nd place in Grand Final) – 6.2 score
15. Cyprus (19th place in Grand Final) – 6.1 score
16. Czechia (16th place in Grand Final) – 6.1 score
Czechia's Eurovision 2026 result will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the Contest's unluckiest.
Daniel Zizka delivered a flawless vocal performance of Crossroads, showcasing emotional depth and captivating stage presence.
However, a technical camera issue during the live Grand Final performance disrupted a key moment of the staging, potentially costing the song valuable votes.
After narrowly qualifying from its semi-final in 9th place, Crossroads went on to finish 16th in the Grand Final.
While there was a sense that Czechia had been robbed of a higher placing, the silver lining is that 16th still ranks as the country's fourth-best Eurovision result ever.
Some comments from the team:
"Punchy staging dragged this through to the final, a marked improvement on some of their more recent entries." ~ Fleur
"Crossroads was robbed! Overall I thought this was a great performance which deserved a top 10 finish at least. It should had been Czechia's best ever result at Eurovision." ~ Kyriakos
17. France (11th place in Grand Final) – 6.1 score
France arrived at Eurovision 2026 with high hopes thanks to Monroe's captivating entry Regarde!, a song that combined classic French sophistication with contemporary pop appeal.
Throughout the season, the entry was widely praised for its artistic presentation and strong vocal delivery, positioning France as a genuine contender for a top result.
Unfortunately it was not meant to be. France didn't get the points they were hoping for finishing just outside the Top 10.
Some comments from the team:
"Honestly, I am surprised that this finished 11th. The problem I have with France is that they are overdoing it. We want something with warmth - not so clinical." ~ Fleur
18. Malta (18th place in Grand Final) – 6.1 score
Aidan delivered a heartfelt ballad with Bella which got him a spot in the Grand Final.
This gave Malta their second qualification in a row, something they haven't been able to do since 2014.
Given the strong promotion for Bella, where Aidan even flew all the way to Australia to be the first competitive Eurovision artist to do promotional shows Down Under, it didn't have the impact with the audience many were hoping for.
Out of the 8 televote points Malta got in the Grand Final, half of those came from the Aussie public.
19. Belgium (21st place in Grand Final) – 5.8 score
20. Norway (14th place in Grand Final) – 5.8 score
21. Lithuania (22nd place in Grand Final) – 5.2 score
Needs Improvement
22. Sweden (20th place in Grand Final) – 4.9 score
The team has given Sweden a score of 4.9 placing the Eurovision powerhouse as nation that needs improvement.
In 2026 Sweden were at some stage one of the favourites in the betting odds.
My System is a big contemporary pop song. Felicia delivered some huge staging that included lasers and a giant version of herself.
Despite the entry being a huge winner at Melfest, it didn't resonate at Eurovision.
For some countries a top 20 placing would be great, it means you miss out at being in the bottom five. But for Sweden it's a rare occurrence.
The last time Sweden landing in the 20's was in 2009 when they finished in 21st place with Malena Ernman's La voix.
Hopefully a Melfest revamp of sorts will steer Sweden back to Eurovision success.
Some comments from the team:
"Sweden will be disappointed that this runaway Melfest winner received their worst result since 2010. It just goes to show that sometimes staging ideas don't transfer well to Eurovision and perhaps more effort needs to be put in to winning over the wider European & Australian audiences." ~ Emma
23. Switzerland (11th place in SF2) – 4.5 score
24. Germany (23rd in Grand Final) – 3.8 score
25. Montenegro (13th place in SF1) – 3.8 score
26. Latvia (13th place in SF2) – 3.7 score
Latvia sent a beautiful and emotional ballad which Atvara delivered exquisitely. But that wasn't enough.
They achieved their 13th NQ in 17 years.
The one time Eurovision winning nation need to capture what they had in the 2000's when they would at least finish in the Top 20 of a Grand Final to see some success at the Contest again.
Some comments from the team:
"Latvia is a huge culprit when it comes to underwhelming staging. The problem with this is that it was pretty much the same at Supernova. It worked there but it needed something extra at Eurovision especially when you need to stand out against other ballads. Atvara simply got lost in the mix." ~ Fleur
27. Austria (24th place in Grand Final) – 3.5 score
Super catchy song? Tick. TikTok dance ready to go viral? Tick. Memorable outfit and staging? Tick. Representing the host nation? It's a tough gig!
Unfortunately Tanzschein by Cosmó didn't captivate the jury nor public as much as Austria might have been hoping for.
Some comments from the team:
"I mean, did the thought of even remotely trying to go back-to-back even cross Austria's mind this year? Gotta be the biggest 'meh' effort after winning the whole thing in recent memory." ~ Kiel
"Look they didn't want to win again so soon and this was a perfect host nation entry." ~ Fleur
"Honestly one of my favourites of the year. I truly think Austria were robbed!" ~ Kyriakos
28. Estonia (11th in SF1) – 3.5 score
29. Portugal (12th in SF2) – 3.5 score
30. Luxembourg (12th in SF2) – 3.3 score
31. Armenia (14th in SF2) – 3.2 score
32. San Marino (14th place in SF1) – 2.9 score
33. United Kingdom (Last place in Grand Final) – 2.7 score
The UK saw a return to the bottom of the Grand Final scoreboard, with only a single point, but at least it wasn't nul points.
They took a risk but it unfortunately didn't pay off.
What can the UK do to return and be the Eurovision powerhouse they once were?
Some comments from the team:
"Props to the UK for trying something different but this just failed to land. I really think they would benefit from going back to a national final - an authentic one with homegrown artists and original songs - not one with a pre-chosen song and a number of artists for the public to choose from. It might help them get the build up they need amongst the fans in the lead up to the competition." ~ Emma
34. Georgia (Last place in SF1) – 2.1 score
Early in the season Georgia gave us something very promising with a super catchy banger and a slick music video.
Unfortunately they delivered something different on the Eurovision stage that didn't resonate.
It is Georgia's 8th NQ in a decade! Hopefully they break their NQ curse in 2027!
Some comments from the team:
"What on earth happened here? The video gave us so much promise and then... nothing." ~ Fleur
"With a half decent song, Georgia actually had the chance to qualify this year but it looks like they blew their budget on the video rather than the staging." ~ Emma
35. Azerbaijan (Last place in SF2) – 1.3 score
Unfortunately Azerbaijan is placed last by the team in our scoreboard ranking.
It is their fourth NQ in a row, a record for them.
Hopefully Azerbaijan can turn things around in Eurovision 2027 and return them to their glory days of the late 2000's and early 2010's when they dominated the Grand Final Top 5.
