Ukraine Eurovision star Alyosha's home destroyed by Russian strikes

The home of Ukraine's Eurovision 2010 artist Alyosha has been severely damaged by a Russian missile.

The singer, now known as Olena Topolia, and her husband Taras Topolia survived the blast and are safe.

Her husband shared that the apartment block next to them received a direct hit, and the shock wave impacted their home.

"Inside, everything is crushed, the explosive wave bent and the armored doors burst out of the locks," he posted.

"The walls remained, and those partially destroyed. We are lucky, everyone in the family is alive.

"Unlike the people in the building opposite where the direct hit happened. There are victims out there. Rest in peace to all who didn't survive this night. Hell of a lottery..."

Russian drones and missiles hit Kyiv on 23 June. At least 10 people have been killed and dozens injured.

Olena shared a video directly after the strikes to social media.

Many artists shared their thoughts, including Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala.

"I just can't bear such a shock 💔 If you need anything, I'm here," she commented.

Alyosha competed at Eurovision in 2010 with Sweet People and finished 10th in the final.

She sang a stunning and powerful duet with Rebecca Ferguson about the war at the Liverpool 2023 contest.

After the war began in 2022, she wrote for The Guardian about the conflict and Eurovision.

"Since the conflict broke out, I see the world differently and Eurovision has taken on new meaning. It’s not just a night of frivolity any more, and fans aren’t just music fans – their support means so much more this year," she wrote.

"Three months into the conflict, Europe has got complacent. Bombs and destruction have become the new normal. But what Ukrainians are facing is not normal. I can’t even fathom the atrocities I’m hearing about. Children as young as mine are losing their lives – and for what? What is happening is evil. It goes against everything it means to be human."
